faulknerwn 36 #1 January 14, 2012 I have a Canon T1i with a 10-22 lens. I've had this for a couple of years, always shooting in TV mode. Recently the pictures I take in TV mode are always coming out washed out, but if I put it in Sports mode they come out fine. I've tried speeds of 1/400-1/640 with no difference. Tried with/without UV/Polarizer lenses. No difference. Moving the exposure compensation down a couple of notches helps a little but its still washed out. I've got Auto ISO, currently on Auto White Balance (though I used to use cloudy). Setting is Standard, Ai Servo, Evalutative metering, continuous shooting. AF Point selection is automatic. I'm out of ideas on why it suddenly started overexposing in TV mode but being fine in Sports Mode. I just hate trying to take landing shots in sports mode because its hard to get it to focus.. dragon2 0 #2 January 15, 2012 I've had cameras unintentionally overexpose for 2 reasons: 1) Using the remote or turning on the camera inside the (darkish) plane before getting out, and setting the camera to fix the exposure on a "half shutter click". This setting is what you'd normally use to re-compose a shot for groundwork, however it doesn't work so well in the air This issue also depends on how your remote is wired - will the camera keep metering and focussing when it is turned on, or wil it only start doing that when you use the remote. You can see this is happening because the reported aperture in your overexposed pictures will be too high (ie, 2.8 on a sunny day). Solution: don't set your camera this way. 2) The camera THINKS it is setting the right aperture for the picture, but the aperture in the lens gets "stuck". In this case the reported aperture of an overexposed picture will be correct, however the camera clearly used a different aperture than stated. You can see if you have this problem by switching out lenses and cameras. Does the same lens plus a different camera have the same issue? And visa versa? faulknerwn 36 #3 January 15, 2012 Laugh, solution for your second problem would be just shooting in sports mode. Save $700. The camera is turned on in the plane like it always has been. Like I said, whatever is going on only started a couple of months ago. I'm using the standard conceptus bite switch. I'm not sure how it's wired but I'm not using anything non-standard. Aperture Value: 5.375 Exposure Time: 1 / 499 FNumber: 6.3 ISO Speed Ratings: 100 Metering Mode: Pattern All things being equal except the aperture being smaller, I can see the confusion. stopped down a half stop shouldn't be washing out the photos; they should have less exposure/darker even with the increased AV value. faulknerwn 36 #5 January 15, 2012 I may have fixed the problem. We were poking around trying to fix the problem this morning and one thing I did was take the lens off. Last batch of pictures came out fine. So maybe there was dust or something on one of the sensors connecting the lens to the camera? Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

You will sometimes get a blown out shot or dark image as well due to the sun shinning in the view finder. A friend will bail you out of jail , a REAL friend will be sitting next to you in the cell slapping your hand saying "DUDE THAT WAS AWSUM " ................
