Help: Which HD Video Cameras are best for Free Flying

Recommended Posts

Appreciate Advice: I'd like to start jumping with a video camera (side mounted) on free fly jumps - fun, not work. I have no experience with video and are starting the process of educating myself. I have a few questions, which I need help with: Are tape camcoders the only ones suitable for skydiving? Are any of the new HD camcorders with memory sticks suitable? Are any of the new HD hard drive camcorders any good? Which HD camcorders are the most used (which I'm assuming means the tried-and-tested best).

Many thanks

The search function works really well. All of your questions have been asked before.

Tape = Sony HC1,3,5,7 or 9

Memory Stick = Sony CX7, 12

Hard drives don't work at altitude.

I still don't understand how people are sit flying with a CX7 cause i couldn't get it to work at all.

We need a 'good' thread about this subject.

Bith of these cameras are useless for freeflying, I am interested to see if anyone has hade the same sort of Image stabaliser problems on there HD solid state cameras,

In particular I am interested in the Panasonic SD9

Sony CX7's and 12's are a waste of money if freeflying is what you are after. even handy cam gets wavy images with these cameras.

it is, more or less. Problem is, many people don't read the stickies at the top of the forum, even though they say "Read me before posting here."

It's The HC5/7 can be sidemounted fine in a 2k FF3. It's only 12mm wider than the old 2k FF2 with a PC series in it. Not everyones choice but works for me. Try this link to see if it works.

The CX models fit in it fine too.

No problems free flying with the HC5 either.
