Raynox HD-5050 adapter rings ?

I have just received my Raynox HD-5050PRO lens to use with my HDR-CX7. I was surprised to find that there is a 37-37mm adpater ring. As the thread on the CX7 is 37mm do I need to use the thread adapter to get the correct focal distance?
What's the point of this 37-37mm adapter?

My guess (only that) is that they wanted to maintain the same distance to the lens whether you needed to adapt the threads to your camera or not. Can't imagine any other reason for including the adapter, so I have always used mine.

What's strange is that I also have purchased a Raynox 0.3 (HD-3032PRO) and despite the thread being the same 37mm, they do no include a 37-37 adapter.

I think it is to prevent the back side of the lens (convex) from bottoming out on either the front of the camera lens or the "shutter" (lens cover)... it may or may not be necessary.

MAtt is correct, that's what the extension ring is for. It's not needed on most lenses.

Should putting a 37-37 adapter on my .3 raynox ( which doesnt come with one... probably due to adequate clearance) affect the picture at all????

It is not needed on my HC5 with the Raynox
