So who's good enough to make a jump with an experimental camera?

Recommended Posts

Got something interesting for you.

Check this out: http://www.immersivemedia.com - They're a client. 3-D immersive video from a camera with 11 lenses. Sick stuff. Go play with some of the demos. They'll truly blow your mind.

They want to showcase their technology in a way that blows people's minds. Of course, I thought of doing a skydive with the camera. Then I saw what's needed to actually record the video, and it's about 40 pounds of stuff, plus the camera. I'm SO not there yet.

So I figured I'd post the query on DZ, and offer it to a skygod - I (and probably someone from the company) would fly out to wherever their drop zone is, and work with them, letting them jump with the equipment, etc. It'd be killer video - guaranteed media exposure for whomever does it.

So then... Who's up for it?

Email me to my REGULAR EMAIL - peter shankman.com, and talk to me. How would it be done? Where are you located? How many jumps have you done? Have you jumped experimental stuff before? If you have to ask yourself if you're ready for something like this, you're probably not...

It is, though, an amazing opportunity to jump and record a 360 degree view of a skydive - Imagine doing a sit-fly with ten friends, and they're ALL IN THE FRAME, AT ALL TIMES. Or imagine being the base of a 20-way, and everyone is on video, during the entire jump?

So let's chat. I'd love to make this happen sometime this summer.

Thanks!

-Peter (who so wants to do it, but is so NOT even REMOTELY close to being ANYWHERE NEAR ready.)

Those two popped to my mind also. I'd also throw Norman Kent and Tom Sanders into the small group of people domestically that are capible of jumping the camera and making the fotage look as good as it could get. Norman usually does the summer boogie tour so he might be able to get some really unique locations. Tom is running an UltraLight op and is jumping out on Hawaii so the views out there are just unreal. http://www.normankent.com/ and http://www.aerialfocus.com/

If i'm reading the spec's correctly the data is recorded to harddiscs and we know what they do in freefall. So i think the weight is the least of your problems.

Otherwise it would be great to have something as this on the worldrecord wingsuitdive s out of an AN-72 in Germany in Juli
If people from Poland are called Poles, why aren't people from Holland called Holes???

HDD's aren't going to fail in a single freefall, not to my experience anyway. I've jumped several times with a Sony DR60 with the specific intent of learning how many jumps it takes to kill it. So far, 30 jumps in and it's ticking strong.
Man, shooting a flocking dive would be terrific with this camera if the demo vids are any indication of what it can do!

I was contacted by a production company about a year ago to do a BASE jump with this camera. I've got some pics of a bellymounted harness they sent me if you're interested in seeing them. The project never came to be.
