BoobieCootie 0 #1 May 14, 2003 While browsing Para-Gear, I happened on this PARIS style canopy. At first glance I thought it was a paraglider. Upon reading, it seems that you deploy it like a skydive canopy. This is really because I've been told (by paraglider pilots) that paragliding canopies could blow should you deploy it in freefall. But this PARIS canopy looks like the marriage between skydiving and paragliding. No more having to worry about long spots, and for swooping... Anyone have experience with jumping a PARIS? edit: Fixed the broken link, but still click on Tactical Systems under Military, then PARIS

With regards to the canopy/glider - It's basically a HAHO (High Altitude, High Opening) canopy - which the military would use to drop SF in. Perhaps dropping the jumpers on a commercial flight route. They could then go cross-country, usually by GPS to their landing area. (Look under Military/Navigation)---------- Ben G Still Sinking :-(
SkydiveMonkey 0 #4 May 14, 2003 It mentions a 6:1 glide ratio - what's typical on a sport canopy?____________________ Say no to subliminal messages
BoobieCootie 0 #5 May 14, 2003 More like 3:1 on a sport canopy. But if you're some hot shot swooper like Andy Farrington, it'd be more like 12:1 but you'd have to be going around 75mphBack tot the PARIS system: Who makes these?
