GeorgeKat 0 #1 July 12, 2006 Looking for pre-purchase learned opinions please. Is anyone using the Canon 14mm f2.8L? Is it worth 4 times the Canon or Sigma 15mm? What about the Sigma v Canon 15's? Any views? George
DancingFlame 0 #2 July 13, 2006 Sigma 15 is a fish-eye lens. Canon 14 mm is rectilinear. That's why price differs. On some cameras (Rebel, RebelXT, 20D) edges are cropped and Sigma 15mm looks more like a wide-angle with lots of distortion (no fish-eye effect). Laszloimage 0 #3 July 14, 2006 I'm using (not mine) one of those 14mm lenses. They are awesome! But I don't see the $1300 differece using it on the 1.6 factor cameras. But it deffinetly has and advantage on the full frame cameras like Ds-1 or 5D. Also we tested the difference between the Sigma and the Canon 15mm lenses. The Canon performed just a tiny hair better in the low light-auto focus-auto exposure mode. And just a little less curve on the edges on the pictures. But the Sigma used to be $150 cheaper awhile ago and still works great. Now days it's almost the same price for either of those lenses so I would buy the Canon.
