Is there a difference in memory stick and memory stick PRO?

I just got a Memory Stick PRO and my PC9 is giving me a memory stick error. Does anyone think it is related to not being just a plain old memory Stick?

One source i found said this:

Note: Before you go and get a Memory Stick Pro make sure that your device can handle it. Chances are that it's not supported if the camera or PDA is older than 2 years.

Another said:

Proper operation with all devices is not guaranteed. Memory Stick Pro compatibility is dependent upon individual host hardware specifications

thanks, I took it back and got the regular memory stick and it works now. I talked to sony, and they stated that the PRO and DUO memory sticks would not work. There is also a few models in the trv, pc-3 and pc-100 that will not take regular memory sticks also.

For the record, Memory Stick PROs can be faster and larger capacity than regular ol' Memory Sticks. Duos are physically smaller.
