jumpflyer 0 #1 August 19, 2004 Greetings all, I am looking for input from experienced camera flyers who use both video and still cameras (eg. tandem photography). I know most of us do not use a RSL's together with our large camera helmets. However, given the fact that the sky hook now deploys the reserve differently, would any of you experienced photographers consider using a sky hook? If so, why or why not? Thanks for the input. davelepka 4 #2 August 19, 2004 ***the sky hook now deploys the reserve differently ----------------------------------------------------- It still deploys the reserve immediately after a cutaway, regardless of the position of your camera helmet (as in pinned back by your twisted risers after you filmed your canopys attempt to open). For this reason it doesn't seem any better than an RSL.
freefalle 0 #3 August 19, 2004 As much as I am an advocate for rsl's/skyhook, I won't use one when Im jumping a camera. Thats just my personal preferece.
flypunk 0 #4 August 19, 2004 Lets say worst case scenario (at least one)... you have a very bad line twist and are going straight down, you chop it, but your risers are twisted around your helmet, they lift off enough to pull the pin butt as the risers go up they snag in your head gear. Now you have a main in tow above you, your reserve container open with the pilot chute on its way out, and the bridal is attached to your main risers (skyhook) which are entangled in your stuff. Dunno might be that I have a very active imagination, and am completely off base, but it doesnt sound pleasant. ...
jdhill 0 #5 August 19, 2004 One of the reasons for not using an RSL with camera set-ups is to make sure you are clear of your cut-away before activating the reserve... I don't see how a skyhook is any different from theRSL in that respect, and may actually be worse... if your main is essentially acting as your reserve PC, and your main get snagged after it has started extracting the reserve, you could be having a very bad day. diablopilot 2 #6 August 19, 2004 If you do some research and understand how "differently" the SkyHook deploys the reserve, you'll see if really changes nothing when adressing the concerns of camera flyers.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
