Zennie 0 #1 June 12, 2001 Experienced camera fliers may have already dealt with this, but I've been wondering this for a while. How do you prevent serious whiplash/neck fractures on hard openings -- especially when some of y'all wear pounds of stuff on your head? One thought was a neck brace sorta like what footbal players wear. I'd think you'd have to protect your neck somehow.------------Blue Skies!Zennie
quade 3 #2 June 12, 2001 A fellow camera flyer at the DZ this weekend, who jumps a Stilleto 120, put a G-meter from an aerobatic airplane on his helmet and jumped it a few times. He was getting readings from +8 to -5. We assume the -5 was a whiplash type of thing.I -don't- think a brace is a very good idea, since that would limit your ability to move your head and look out for traffic.I think the best protection from hard openings is to not have them. Pack correctly and choose the right canopy for the job.I jump a Spectre.Paul
