Good starter equipment

I am wondering what you all would suggest would be the best set-up for someone looking to just do film of jumps for personal use. Also, if the equip was useful for practicing for filming tandems in the future.
Any help would be useful!

Hey Mountainman. I'm just starting out with camera flying. I found a good deal on one of those Paramount System 3 camera helmets. I have not received it yet, but I'll let you know how it is when I try it. Also I have an old Hi-8 Camera that I am using.
I think it's wise to start with equipment that is not too expensive, that way if you dont like camera flying, you dont lose out on too much.
Just my thoughts.

I just got my Paramount System 3 helmet. It is pretty nice for what I want to do with it. I haven't jumped it yet, but there is a videographer at my home DZ that uses almost the same setup. I saw someone else with one this saturday that liked it. It is not the most expensive or fanciest helmet you can get, but it will do the job. I can't wait until my camera comes so I can start jumping it.

thanks for the info. sounds like those Paramounts are the thing to get! My buddy is wanting to do it too, and I am going to probably get into skysurfing. That could come out with some cool stuff.

I just started camera flying as well.. I use a bonehead mindwarp with the PC5 dbox with the PC5 mini dv camera. Starting off doing solos and such, haven't worried to much about a still camera mount. I'm thinking eventually there will be no need for still cameras - with the improvement of still from Mini DV capabilities (like that with the PC5) as well as on site photo printers (which are like under 500 now) you won't need the still cam. Anyway that's just what I have...

dont count on it. the PC5 stills are marginal, and stills taken from video are barely passable. There is currently no substitute for film that I have found yet (within reason).
