Fatique?

Recommended Posts

How do you combat fatique? After our best jump ever yesterday at teh fsl meet (A 20 point skydive) we had a 2 hour wait for the next load, the energy levels of the team were considerably down, actually it was noticed across the board with the other teams also. So what are some of the best ways to keep focus and energy levels going after a long period between jumps.

Were you all sitting around waiting for the load or up and moving around? That would make a huge difference. Cardio also plays a big part, I'm sure if you asked any world class skydiver how important fitness is they would tell you it can mean the difference between a good training day and a great training day.

And if all else fails, Go Fast is your friend, now if you'll excuse me I have to go pick up a check from Go Fast:P

it sounds simple, but TRAINING for it actually helps a ton. Schedule some training days where you intentionally have long calls, or when you stay out late the night before, etc.

Our final camp is going to be longer calls, slower pace, just to prepare for nationals. When you've been doing back-to-backs, 12 jumps a day for the whole season, slowing down can be tough, which is why we'll be doing it BEFORE we get to the meet ;)

Once you know what happens to you (and each other team member) when you ARE fatigued, sitting around, etc etc, it's a LOT easier to combat it. Different people need different things. Sometimes, just having a bite to eat helps. A Go Fast or a shot of sugar might be your thing.

As for focus, have a plan to get up, walk the jump every 15 minutes or so, make a personal plan to spend 2 minutes every 20 just visualizing, etc.

In addition to training for it which is the #1 item, watch what you eat and stay hydrated....On long calls try to walk the jump every 20 minutes or so, and creep it at least once an hour.

Stop staying out 1/2 the night and showing up to skydive ;)

PS: Great to see you doing 4-way....
