It's almost time....World Meet 2006, who's it gonna be?

Recommended Posts

I was waiting for someone else to start this thread since I started pretty much all the threads for the big competitions last year, but oh well...I'll step up and get this one going as well;)

4-Way
This year we've seen more countries than ever before pushing out teams that have been posting scores in the 20+ range, US, Italy, Belgium, Russia, France, and I think the Brits have 21 potential this year as well(please chime in if I missed any countries). In past World Meet's its almost always been a battle almost exclusively between the US and the French for 1st place, this year it's shaping up to be a 5 way battle royale. I don't think the competition is going to be won by pure flying ability alone, it's going to be heart, drive, and how well each teams holds up under stress. The US team proved themselves under pressure at the 2005 nats when they came back from behind to tie the GK and later beat them in the jump off, and even though the Point flyer for the US Natsha is fairly new in the sport compared to some of the other teams she more than proved herself on the international stage last year at the Malevsky meet, it's going to come down to the last round and it's going to be close but I think we should have this one.

4 Way Women
Everyone saw the score posted by the French female team last week, and I thought I heard something about the British women's team posting something close to that recently as well. It's awesome to see all female teams stepping up the scores to the same level as the open class teams, I would love to see a 20+ in the female class so we can just do away with female class and get our butts kicked by girls all the time(that would rock;)). I haven't seen any scores from the US team in the last few months but I'm sure they are pushing hard to be every bit as competitive, and honestly I can't decide which country really has the upper hand in this one, so I'm just going to go ahead and say Old Glory(that's the American flag for you Europeans:P) is going to be flying over the podium in this one.

8 Way
This is the one I'm really looking forward to. The French team has been together for three years without any roster changes, and everyone knows the reputation the French have for excellence in this sport. They may have lost the World Cup in October but it was by a very narrow margin, and they were in the fight until the very end. The US team, Airspeed(the greatest team in the history of the sport in case you were wondering;)) has had a few roster changes in the last two years. Eric Gin, formerly of Fastrax came to the team this year already having some 8 way experience under his belt and I have heard nothing but good things about his flying for Airspeed thus far. Thomas Hughes, former British national team member, former Arizona Blade, and Alternate for Fire last year, Thomas is argueably one of the fastest guys in the sport(chop him off at the shins and he could be the British John Eagle!!), and watching his recent training videos you would never know that this was his first 8 Way team, he also has world meet experience with the British team, so he's no stranger to competition stress. Andy Delk and Brian Johnson have been on the team going on two years now, they were both on the 4 way lineup that crushed everyone else at the World Cup last fall and have won international events in 8 Way before. Andy H. has been on the team since 2003, he was with Airspeed for the World Meet in Croatia in 2004, a very experienced 8 Way flyer and current world champ. Eliana Rodriguez, has been on the team 5+ years now I believe, this will be her 4th World Meet with Airspeed, another current World Champ, and then there's her smile;), need I say more?! Craig Girard heads up the 8 Way project for Airspeed, he was on the original 8 Way lineup after leaving the Knights one of the most experienced competitors in the sport probably pushing close to 30,000 jumps(I doubt he even know the exact number), and I believe 4 or 5 world championships to his name. And then there's the man himself, Kirk Verner, one of the founding members of Airspeed, has competed in every World meet since the early nineties and has walked away with a gold medal from all but three of them(and a silver medal ain't exactly something to laugh at), Kirk and Craig also fall into that list of fastest guys in the sport, every one of my videos of me doing 4 Way with Kirk you see him putting on the brakes as I'm still winding up to start my move, he be fast!!;). Airspeed has the pure talent and skill, France has the experience and continuity as a team, it's going to be a rough meet for both teams and I think too close to call. Even though AS won the World Cup in October they did it flying much different than they are known for, they were right on the edge of losing it, that's how hard they were pushing themselves, they will tell you themselves, they were right on the line, any further and they would've have lost it. So stackin it all up I'm not even going to make a call on this one, I'm just going to sit here for 5 days in August glued to omniskore pushing refresh every 30 seconds and watching my nails dissapear. But you can sure as hell bet I'm going to be holding up a US flag the whole time screaming at the top of my lungs for my country;).

I would have written more but I just looked down and realized that my underwear is on inside out and have to go fix it, underwear malfuntions can be traumatizing if not immedeatly mitigated.

you forgot arcteryx in the open 4way class...
I think ot's gone be very difficult to beat Sinapsi for Fire... then we'll have a battle for the third place between, the former maubeuge, arcteryx and hayabusa. I really don't know how high will be the russian level... but undoubtely they'll be there at least for the third :S

and untill now I haven't seen the airkix girls posting more than 16.. that's a huge difference to 17,9. It would be interesting to see she british girls on this one

for the 8 way I'm definitely cheering the french 8 way ;). they have reach a new level since the world cup, more aggressive and faster of course...

the only thing I'm sure is that it will be a great competition B|

4way : Gonna be tight. Either Fire or Italy in the top spot. The rest is a crap shoot.

8way: US, France, Russia.

4 way Female: France, UK, US.
The US team stepped down and Select suddenly found themseves going in their place. Select has had player changes and so far has only posted a 13.3.

About the Female class...I still don't like it. My reason is in the scores. US, Italy, Norway all have female players. Add in Airspeed who is not going and the top teams in the WORLD have females on them. Of all of those females, only one has ever won a female world title.

Look at the top US teams:
Fire. Natasha
Airspeed "O". Eliana
Airspeed "V". None
Fastrax. None

The top teams have females.
Look at the fastest rising teams in the US, Fury and Gravity. Both have female members. Females are going to be standing on podiums everywhere.

well, that's certainly a more entertaining way to take the thread than just IDing the top teams.

I doubt the female class will ever go away until a fully female team stands on the podium in the Open class. Then maybe all will realize how silly it is to have lower expectations for a gender-specific class.

The Norwegians definitely have a great team but I don't think they are quite at the level of winning medals at a world meet. Russia I believe will be right there in the battle for first as well, and I definitely can't count the French out, they may be a new team but three of the members were of the former national team and I think are already world champs. and even though Sinapsi did beat Fire at the showdown I believe Fire had just come off a training break and was a little uncurrent, the 47 pointer goes to show that even if Sinapsi did have the more current team fire has the pure skill, and just to throw in on more variable, I think Italy has the hotter female of the two teams:P.

For 8 way, yes the French have improved since the world cup, but I've been watching AS training their asses off all season, and watching some of their jumps from last weekend I couldn't believe how far they've come in the lasat few months. And now that it's coming down to crunch time they are stepping it up even more. Again, I'm not going to make a prediction for 8 way, both teams are too talented, but I'm pullin for my boys(and gal!). I'll be in Eloy this weekend and ask what kind of averages they've been doing on draws, I know they were expecting to have to push at least a 21 to win this thing.

that might've had something to do with natasha's broken back and being down 2 months, but i'm just guessing there...:P

joking or not, was that really necessary? gimme a break. they're both outstanding, world-class skydivers and at the world meet, their looks won't amount to a pinch of monkey shit when it comes to who's on the podium. you don't hear us saying "those guys have bigger dicks so they should win..."

sorry for the rant, but dragging beauty into this is like having tits on a boar....useless.

:D<--trying to learn something from ron.

Tell me again, why you don't want a female class. More females standing on the Podium the better.B|

more news on the 8 way event, Dan BC observed some of the Russians 8 way training and said they have reached the point where they could very well be a contender in the race for the gold. That would be awesome if there were to be another team pushing for the top spot, the stiffer the competition the higher the scores;).

Not only because I like being around good looking women, but Natasha, Eliana, and Arianna would also push me. I like being pushed by good looking women...I'm sick like that;)

I am glad we have something in common ;)

Edit to add: Isn't it funny that literally every discussion on this forum quickly evolves into discussion about good-looking women? The topic was who is going to win a world meet :P

Yeah, and if we are going there then do I need to remind you what the female (praying) mantis does to the male??? Or perhaps THAT was what your memo was referring to? (hehe)

Ok, back to the the thread...

Simple experiment for us guys -

Jump in nice warm clothes, looking at pornography on the ride up and see how it goes
Jump the same dive in very thin layers in freezing weather and see how it goes (there happens to be a very male reaction to freezing cold that pertains to the subject question)

Each of us send our results to Arlo. She can let us know how it works.
