base570 1 #1 July 16, 2003 I was just wondering if anyone thinks that a 20pt. avg. in 4-way could possibly be achieved by a weekend team with no sponsorship?? By weekend/non-sponsored team I'm meaning a team that jumps less than 400 jumps together per year and pays for everything themselves. If not 20pts. how about 18? Where do you think the pros would be avg. wise without the "unlimited" resources? BUZZZZZZ Jason

BUZZZZZZ Jason I think if you get the right people, an 18 is not out of the question, a 20.... that would be very difficult, if not impossible -- how much tunnel time in those 400 jumps?. That would not include guys like Bobo, Collins and Dave VG throwing a team together, either. I think that Ron's team actually had a shot at that mark, and they are pretty much unsponsored weekenders. Our team had a soild 18 in the sights this year. We think it could have happend. We started the season with a 16.6 with only 20 jumps together. However it was a team made up of people that have done 4 way for a number of years, and one of the players had been PRO for 3 years. We had 300 jumps, and almost 30 hrs of tunnnel planned. DeLand Genesis (PD Blue later) did a 19.1 at the 99 Nationals. This was I think was the last "Weekend" year for them. But this team had been together for 4 years, and much longer in various other forms. 97 13.0 98 16.2 99 19.1 00 20.4 So yes, I think an 18 can happen for a weekend team. It would take a few years with the same line up. 300-400 jumps a year and several tunnel camps. However by the time a team reaches the 18 mark, they most likley will get sponsorship somewhere. harryskydives 0 #4 July 16, 2003 let see train like a pro: 400 jumps @ $15 X 5 = $30,000 4 tunnel camps @ $6k each X 4 = $24,000 5 rigs @ $4K each X 5 = $20,000 video =$4,000 jump suits @ $350 X 5 = $1,750 Travel (must live in Az, Ca, Fl) ? Additional Coaching ? Of course if you are training like this you will get discounts. But 3-5 years together. Now i know why i have no money and no big numbers. If you can find five guys working full time, training only weekends: they have good jobs and no other life. Well i have no other life. How many weekend teams are there that have keep the same line up for 3-5 years?? Don't run out of altitude and experience at the same time...
quade 4 #5 July 17, 2003 Is skydiving possibly the world's most expensive sport? (That's money spent per minute actively engaged, btw.)quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
harryskydives 0 #6 July 17, 2003 At this rate about $1200+ per hour. Humm in college i spent 2-5 hours a day training. The cost was almost free, to me. Different sport. Many more injuries. I'll keep jumping, too much fun. Oh yeah, I heard 4-way not supposed to be fun. Well we sure know it's expensive, but i would just piss it away on a boat or race cars if I did not jump. cptnstratn 0 #7 July 17, 2003 Naw, Formula1 racing has got have skydiving beat. Guess it depends on how you define "actively engaged". Is that just the jump, or packing, lift time, dirt-diving, etc.???
Zoltan 0 #8 July 18, 2003 Everything is possible... the only problem is that every point (as avarage) has its price and as you get closer to 25 the points get more and more expensive even if we assume that the 4way team members are all young (<40) strong, smart, talented and motivated experienced jumpers :) To reach 20 from 18 will cost maybe 10 times more that reaching 18 from 8 :) z
