sweeney 0 #26 January 2, 2003 Never made a skydive until after my 20th birthday but have been in the wind tunnel since age 14. I never used booties until I was 18 and I hated it also. With 20 jumps (i'm guessing you've got no more than 20 minutes with booties) I would use em' for at leat 50 more jumps or get into a tunnel with em' so you really can practice. After I had flown in booties for about an hour (worth about 60 jumps I finally got used to them. The other day I jumped for the 1st time without booties and I hated it. I think you'll love em' once ya get used to it.
epsilon07 0 #27 January 3, 2003 Lisa, I transitioned to booties at about the 100 jump level, and it made a big difference in the way I fly. One thing that really helped me in the beginning was when I was told to push my legs down into the wind with booties on. I am the skinniest flyer out there being a 5'11" male at 140 lbs. I have always had to wear weight doing 4-way RW, and I noticed no real difference with the booties in fall rate, except for the fact that during the first few jumps I was "potato chipping" thats what I call rocking back and forth. I have read all the responses and everyone is right on with the pushing your pelvis down thing, it will help alot. Hope this helps, Blane
ernokaikkonen 0 #28 January 3, 2003 >he he...Reread the entire thread and replace booties with boobies! Quote i just roll the boobies up into the bottom part of the leg. I would save cutting them off before you get used to them And to actually contribute to the topic: I bought a suit with booties when I had 500 jumps(now700). Having them does require a different body position, but they are worth the trouble. The tunnel idea sounds good to me.
