stayhigh 2 #114 June 4, 2014 I guess it all depends on a personal preference right??? I think out of all x-brace canopy that is currently out there, VX and FX opens the quickest. I'm not talking about JVX or JFX. Even than, JVX and JFX opens much faster than velo or xaos. I remember FX being really sensitive to how I pack. Not having to cut it away does not mean it opened well. I did several things to stop getting slammed by an FX85. Psycho packed it, bought an 24" f111 pilot chute on manufactures recommendation(which I attribute to mals on other canopies). That canopy did not open soft by any means. It hurt at times. The vx74 I jumped had this disconcerting forward/diving surge at the last minute upon full inflation. Neither I came close to chopping but neither opened as well as my previous two canopies. My small reserve didn't malfunction when it opened at pretty much terminal during a bag lock but that does not mean I would want that opening every jump. Point is people are not talking about having malfunctions when discussing how well their canopy opens That spot isn't bad at all, the winds were strong and that was the issue! Im worried it will pack bigger , maybe it will wear out quicker. effect on openings ? Is the difference in performance that much ? Any thoughts ? So small that I had to make the closing loop as small as it could possibly be.the pack-job was soft as a sponge. I do not think you will have any issues with having the sail material for the internals. In fact I believe some people are going to have to buy smaller containers when they get their Leia if they have 306 or bigger. what container/size do you have? I have a 2 weeks old 306.. velo 84 is perfect for it , normaly it can take a velo 79 the guys at nz-sport said the lea packs a bit bigger then the velo ? If I stay with the hybrid, are there any special care concerns like the full sail? I don't particularly need the hybrid, its more of a want than anything else. The typical wear and tear on full sail canopy comes from packing and openings, the centre cells take the most abuse. With the Hybird option the ZP outer takes all the abuse , the internals really don't get affected. Packing wise I noticed as small increase , but nothing to be concerned about. Thats a good question about leaving the canopy packed with sail material. I would like to know. On the peregrine you cant , if you leave it longer then 24 hours packed it will explode or something...
