Poll: Total jump numbers and the type of canopy you fly

Recommended Posts

Question: when reasonnably experienced (around 900 jumps) but with a relatively low jump volume (150/year) is it plausible to go beyond, let's say a [email protected]. ?

I heard several times that you shouldn't be under a Velocity if you don't make at leat 3/400 jump a year. Are there other xbrace that may be less demanding ? Or all x-brace demand a high level of currency (given enough experience of course)

what's your opinion ?

PS: Yeah I confess I'd like to jump that kind of canopies, but most probably wont never exceed 150/200 jumps a year)

Xbrace canopies are all very demanding when it comes to currency! I don't think there are any that are different Unless your talking about the 27 cell xaos which is another animal.

I think the crossfire is an awesome choice for canopy too.

None of the xaos canopies are less demanding. Xaos make s a 21 cell and a 27 cell, the 27 is just more intense than the 21.

~470 right now so I'm under 500 on Eliptical.

Progression:
Sabre 170 / Triathalon 160

Did 10 on a Stilletto 150 and went to canopy course in Dallas when I had 200. Ass handed to me for being on it with those numbers but I was landing it fine, it was the spinning mal I wasn't ready for.

Pilot 150
Cobalt 150

Started HP learning on the Sabre and tried on the Pilot but the recovery is too short. Working on 90*s with the Cobalt.

I've never really progressed beyond 90*s on anything yet because of starting all over with each canopy. I'm only loading the Cobalt at 1.38 but I can fly the pattern using just the harness. Wednesday I got about 20 degrees of correction out of the harness while practicing "obstacle avoidance" from about 50 ft.

Curt in Dallas might run an advanced course this summer and I'll hit that up but right now I'm just working on the HP stuff one turn and 10 ft at a time.
It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude.

Jumps 1 to 30 - Student canopies, 280 to Fury 220
Jumps 31 to 70 - PD 190 (F-111) @ 1.1
Jumps 71 to 320 - Safire 169 @ 1.2
Jumps 321 to 370 - Stilleto 150 @ 1.35
Jumps 371 to 500 - Space 130 @ 1.6 to 1.75
Jumps 501 to 735 - Xaos 21 118 @ 1.95 to 1.75

I took a introductory canopy piloting course at approx. 60 jumps and took an advanced canopy piloting course at approx. 500 jumps. No injuries from landings (gonna knock on some wood here...) though I would be lying if I didn't admit to having a few close calls. I have dedicated a number of jumps to canopy piloting, approximately 150 hop & pops and continue to do so. The reason for the funny looking wing loadings was a substancial weight gain followed by a diet to return to a more fit weight.;)
