Keys 0 #1 July 2, 2001 I've been psycho packing my sabre for a while and now am packing an older F-111 PD 150. Is there any reason not to continue psycho packing? I'm a lot more comfortable with that method than pro or side.
Kirils 1 #2 July 2, 2001 PD does not recommend or approve the Psycho Pack on any of it's chutes (as told to me by one of their reps). I know a number of people using using it with PD products with great success, including me. I would talk to a rigger about shearstress on the F-111 fabric at the bridle attachment...it might be a concern. Make sure you are using bridle extension long enough to reach to the center of the roll.Skydiving is not a static excercise with discrete predictability... Keys 0 #3 July 3, 2001 I've Psycho Packed my Sabre for my last 150 jumps with great openings. I wonder if PD doesn't reccomend it because Prec Aero came up and pushes the method.
riggerrob 558 #4 July 3, 2001 Who started this silly rumor?During the 2001 PIA Symposium, a P.D. spokesman stated that it is okay to Psycho Pack most P.D. main canopies. Ian Bellis made this statement during a Precision lecture on Psycho Packing.
allrightscud 0 #5 July 4, 2001 I've read the phrase psycho packing once or twice on this site, but I've never heard of it anywhere else. What is it exactly and what is its purpose?S'later Scud.
maretus 0 #6 July 5, 2001 Check out http://precision.aerodynamics.com/psycho/psycho_pack.htm .Psycho packing is packing method ment to make putting your canopy inot the D-Bag easier. However the method is somewhat controversial among skydivers, others say it produces best openings and others say it doesen't.
Keys 0 #7 July 5, 2001 My final 2 cents on it.I've psycho packed my Sabre 210 and have consistantly had softer openings without massive snivel. I like the way it opens far better than pro pack, BUT! A skydiver I have a great deal of respect for stopped packing his Velocity because of off heading openings and twists.
Kris 0 #8 July 6, 2001 I have always psycho-packed my Sabre 210 and have had nothing but great openings. Over the last two weeks I have been jumping a demo Stiletto 190 (f*cking great canopy!) and I psycho-packed it with no problems save one... Too much snivel!I finally fixed it by not rolling the tail as tight and presenting the center cell. I did put a few jumps on it after PRO-packing it and could not tell the difference. When it comes to getting slippery PD fabric in the bag nothing helps like a Psycho Pack. Kris
SkymonkeyONE 3 #9 July 6, 2001 Go with what you know and trust. There is no one method that is "best". Personally, I roll-pack square parachutes because I can do it so much faster, but don't let anyone sway you from doing what you like.Chuck
