ryoder 1,381 #1 June 17, 2004 OK, I'm curious; I discovered a thread that had been moved to the forum named "Recycle Bin", and I'm not allowed to access it. I have a hunch the last couple of posts may have been of the nature that normally gets a thread locked. So why would a thread go to "Recycle Bin" instead of being locked?"There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. AggieDave 6 #2 June 17, 2004 From what I've picked up, the "recycle bin" is just like in windows, where it is "deleted" from general public but HH can reinstate the thread if he wishes. Any greenie can move a thread there if he/she is the mod of the forum the thread is in. Now, why? Well, stuff that violates the big rules tend to go there, stuff like child porn type threads (even jokes, news articles, etc) as do threads that get so bad in personal attacks that its better for them to be gone. Atleast that's what I've noticed over the past few years.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
ryoder 1,381 #3 June 17, 2004 I have a feeling it was a personal attack. Since I have personally met both individuals, it has me curious. Hmmm...guess I'l have to become a greenie to read the REALLY good stuff!"There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. TomAiello 25 #5 June 18, 2004 QuoteSo why would a thread go to "Recycle Bin" instead of being locked? Locked threads still elicit responses, sometimes in the form of new threads. Also, locked threads can still be read by anyone who cares to read them. To avoid these things, threads get removed to the Recycle Bin.-- Tom Aiello [email protected] SnakeRiverBASE.com
sangiro 4 #6 June 18, 2004 Locked threads also has an educational purpose. Even after the fact they say: "This is the kind of thread or behavior we don't like to see." You don't need to say it all the time.Safe swoops Sangiro
skr 1 #7 June 18, 2004 > Locked threads also has an educational purpose. I think this is a better approach than editing out posts or otherwise rewriting history. Knowing that what you say will be there for a long time nudges more people to think more before ... Well, you know ... I was just pausing because I was wondering what's going to happen when Sangiro meets his soul mate and runs off to some south sea island for a few years and the server crashes ...
