Danhole 0 #1 March 13, 2001 I am in the process of buying a used Racer rig. It takes a 2-pin Cypres. The question is, if I buy a 2-pin now can I convert it to a 1-pin in the future when I "upgrade" to a Javilin or G3? Is it better to buy a 1-pin now, convert it to a 2-pin then "unconvert" it back to a 1-pin? If that is even possible.I would appreciate any input you may have. Thanks,Danhole
SkySlut 0 #2 March 13, 2001 I personally cant speak from experience, but I know somebody who just sent their 2 pin to be converted to a 1 pin while they are getting their 4 year check up. I am also fairly certain that they were jumping a 1 pin rig while they had a 2 pin cypress. I wouldnt imagine that it would do anything other than take up space, although I would also think that you would want to try to protect any fabric from getting caught in a "loose" cutter. Sorry its not total info but what you are asking can be done. I am not sure how much it cost him to convert it, but I can ask."I'll jump anything!" Craig 0 #3 March 13, 2001 All newer CYPRES units come with a field replaceable cutter system. From what I understand, there is one cutter wire that leaves the unit which ends in a plug. You can then plug in either a single cutter unit, or a dual cutter unit, whichever is required. You could most likely get better info from the US service center at [email protected]. There web site is http://www.sskinc.comCraig

Danhole 0 #5 March 14, 2001 I am asking a rigger. That's why the post is in a "rigging" discussion area. Its not that low...
SkySlut 0 #6 April 9, 2001 It is possible...it cost my roommate about 100 bucks to get it converted. Hope that helps."I'll jump anything!"
miked10270 0 #7 April 9, 2001 Hi Dan,Short answer is yes it's possible. No it doesn't have to go back to Airtec or SSK. If my memory serves me correctly... The reason that the "field replaceable cutter" wasn't fitted from the start was that at first Airtec wanted the fired Cypres back to look at how the unit performed. That has changed & all the early ones were upgraded to "Field-replaceable cutters" during the 4-year check.Mike D10270.
