wind limits for tandem skydiving

Recommended Posts

I remember a conversation with the DZO and another very experienced TI over whether the winds were too high. The DZO said "The fact that we are standing here talking about it, means the winds are too high!"

B|B| I'm gonna remember that one.. Thanks.

When in doubt, sit it out. ;)

Wow! That was a gust!:o
Among important factors I would mention the wing load factor.
I know DZ that utilize Icarus-270 and they jump at 27 knots.
In steady wind and on small canopy I would go 24, maybe 25 knots.
(and I would make money selling adrenaline :) )
In turbulent conditions 15 knots would be enough.

Jason has a reputation for screwing things up and then blaming anyone/everything for it. Total coward. Shuda decked him. But then, what shude you expect from a little prick that is used to flying around and then raining hell down on whoever......

Curious what your max would be for a DZ with turbulence. I jump at a DZ known for winds where everyone is used to jumping in the wind. However, I doubt anyone at my DZ would consider jumping in 27 knot winds, not even the guys with 10k jumps. I've had my canopy shake around pretty good from turbulence on days where the wind was around 10 knots. I cant imagine 27 in turbulent conditions.

We do tandem up to the legal limit in Denmark (21knt) But if the wind is out of the south, we see quite a bit of turbulence due to a forrest. If the wind is between 140-230 degrees we cut at 15 knt.
