Pilot medical reform!

Be careful, you may have the USPA move from a medical requirement that just trips up candidates with DUI's and people with drug convictions, to background checks, piss tests, credit checks, and psych evals.

The USPA is going to do whatever UPT tells them to do anyway. If UPT wants it, the BOD will do it.

I went down and got my physical examination one day, and I walked in, sat
Down (got good and drunk the night before, so I looked and felt my best when
I went in that morning, 'cause I wanted to look like the All-American Kid
From New York City. I wanted to feel like . . . I wanted to be the
All-American Kid from New York), and I walked in, sat down, I was hung down,
Brung down, hung up and all kinds of mean, nasty, ugly things.

And I walked in, I sat down, they gave me a piece of paper that said: "Kid,
See the psychiatrist in room 604."

I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I want to kill! I want to see
Blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth! Eat dead, burnt bodies! I
Mean: Kill. Kill!"

And I started jumpin' up and down, yellin' "KILL! KILL!" and he started
Jumpin' up and down with me, and we was both jumpin' up and down, yellin',
"KILL! KILL! KILL! KILL!" and the sergeant came over, pinned a medal on me,
Sent me down the hall, said "You're our boy". Didn't feel too good about it.

Proceeded down the hall, gettin' more injections, inspections, detections,
Neglections, and all kinds of stuff that they was doin' to me at the thing
There, and I was there for two hours... three hours... four hours... I was
There for a long time goin' through all kinds of mean, nasty, ugly things,
And I was just havin' a tough time there, and they was inspectin',
Injectin', every single part of me, and they was leavin' no part untouched!

Proceeded through, and I finally came to see the very last man. I walked in,
Sat down, after a whole big thing there. I walked up, and I said, "What do
You want?" He said, "Kid, we only got one question: Have you ever been
Arrested?"
Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else.

Sorry to jack your thread, but there are other changes coming to the medical certification in a couple months. Effective 4/1/2016 the medicals won't come with the student pilot certificate anymore. If someone wants the student pilot certificate, they have to apply for one, be cleared by the TSA (oh joy) and be issued a plastic card (which from what it sounds like, is the same card we get after a successful checkride) that says "Student Pilot".

Not going to impact many people on here, but I've known a few TIs who had their medical and decided to give flying a shot, which this would make a difference to.

Not many pilots are thrilled about this and I can bet even fewer of the CFIs out there are.

As a Canadian-based Tandem Examiner, Strong Enterprises allows me a but more slack than Americans.
Strong has never demanded an FAA medical from any of the new TIs that I trained.
I cannot remember the last time I included a Transport Canada Class 3 Medical with a new TI's paperwork.
Strong has always been satisfied with a note (signed by a doctor) saying that the patient is "healthy enough to participate in parachuting."
Several new TIs were approved by TC Flight Surgeons, but I told them not to waste the extra $100 applying for a TC medical.

The key point is that new TIs must produce paperwork (signed by a medical doctor) stating that they meet the same medical standards as a private pilot.
It would be nice if they got re-examined every 2 or 3 years.
