Un-inflated sigma drogue.

Recommended Posts

Is it a some what normal appearance over time???

Not talking about not being cocked.
I'm talking about bridal hitching on drogue or straight sniveling drogue.

and has anyone taken that configuration beyond 20+ seconds??

Hi

I vote for that.

By the book "wait 6-8 sec. - doesn't inflated - pull the drogue release handle".

Waiting longer = you gain more vertical speed = hard deployment / damage to the main & more issues.

Check your drogue at all time.

Cheers

It happened to me once.

We exited and I deployed the drogue. I felt we were still accelerating.
When I looked up, the drogue was not inflating.
I pulled the drogue release after about 8 seconds.
It was a long, cold ride down.

Soon as we landed, I checked the drogue and it was fine.

I doubt the packer would have forgotten to cock the drogue on a Sigma, but our packers are rather sloppy when stowing the drogue.

I've had 3 in 8500 and 2 I can attribute to packing technique. Pulled drogue release within 8 seconds on all three.... 2 of them were 18,000 tandems.... long cold ride indeed.

I've had two droges where the bridle half hitched on the fabric. I know that one of them was still in that configuration at landing. I attribute both of those to either a right side low throw, or a lazy throw. Had hand cam video on one, and you can see the D-bag coming out of the container, and almost bouncing off the back of my head before a slow deployment. It was a learning lesson for me!
Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else.

Maybe a bit off the intended topic discussion - but just out of curiosity - in each of those cases that resulted in an excessively high-deployment being executed in response to the issue, what (if anything) was further done for the tandem pax, who expected something more than just an 8-10 sec total freefall? Were they offered re-jumps? Just told that sometimes SH** happens, and sent on their way(s)? - What?

Again, just an aside bi-product of the occurence curiosity type question.

How did you pack your drogue??

I didn't. Packers came up with their own "easier" technique. Afterwards I made sure they understood and utilized the "factory" method.

As I recall not one of them was disappointed in the experience, they left satisfied.
