Skydive U training

Recommended Posts

Do you want to go through as a student or do you want to be an instructor??? If you want to go through as a student, do it. It was the best investment that I have ever made. They teach you skills and they teach you the right way. You dont have to learn by trial and error or by watching others that may have bad habits. The instructors are great, too. Great skydivers and great people!
If you want to become an instructor...that I dont know, but I hear that its really difficult. I read an article about the process in Parachutist or Skydiving and it seems as though many applicants do not graduate to become an instructor.
Check out www.skydiveu.com or give Rob Laidlaw a call down in Sebastian. I am sure that he would be more than willing to answer any of your questions.

raiderscott,
i cant speak from personal experience, at least not yet, but from what I see, skydive U is a great investment. Over the past few weeks I've watched our skydive U coach Molly working with students. Constantly working with that person. I see them on the creepers, in the mock airplane doorway, sitting in the hanger, walking around in the 'landing pattern' pattern. My point being, i didnt realize how intense the course is until i started witnessing the sessions. I dont know about all SU instructors, but with Molly at least, the training doesnt stop when the beer light comes on. Saturday night she was still working with a student well after dark. It was enough for me, I went to her yesterday and told her im planning on a few skydive U jumps as soon as i finish AFF. Its a good investment, and from the feedback that ive gotten from those who actually have taken some SU instruction, well worth it. Hope this helps.

mountain man,
copied DIRECTLY from the Xkeys web site link about Skydive U..... (this is a direct quote, no plagerism people, im acknowleding my info site :)
Do you want more from your jumps ?
This is the program for you!
Our program teaches you formation skydiving
Its a series of twenty 1 on 1 instructional jumps
learn to fly you body in only 4 or 5 days
You first learn a relaxed body position that gives you to ability to sit still in freefall. You then develop the
basic skills needed to move from place to place in order to build formations.
The skill areas to be developed in freefall are:
exit position
neutral box body position
forward and backward moves
upward and downward moves
turns in place
sideways moves
swooping
Prepare
First learn the theory of Basic Body Flight though classroom instruction. Then practice the body positions
that you will be using in the air. This format eliminates trial and error learning in freefall.
Execute
Each jump is done with you and an instructor and if you wish, a videographer. The instructor provides a
base that allows you to see the results of the movements you make in the air.
Learn
Each jumps is followed by a thorough debriefing session. Our techniques focus on the positive elements
of each jump, while constructively targeting specific areas in which to make improvement.
Recognition
The Skydive University programs are the learning equivalent of 200 to 300 jumps on your own.
No more sitting on the sidelines... You will earn Basic Body Flight and Performance Camp patches that
indicate to skydivers that you have the skills to safely make a successful skydive.
Think you can't afford to ...
You can't afford not to!

Im sure that the SU instructors you plan to go to can answer all the questions you have. Thankyou cross keys for the info above :)

O.K. enough second hand information. I am just about to finish the Basic Body Flight Course. We have covered all the basic motions of RW and body flying: box man position, foward, back movement, tracking, vertical movement, center point turns, side slides, and superpositioning (combinations of the moves). I have really improved my flight skills. I am very certain that I am falling straight down and not spining. I can find my levels better than most people at my jump number. I highly recomend it. Most of the AFF instructors say that one jump with Skydive U is worth 10-20 alone or with friends. GET VIDEO IT REALLY HELPS.

Molly does kick ass and you can tell her I told her that. I met her down at the Search for Skydive U. All the coaches kick ass because they all learned to teach the same way so it really doesnt make a difference who teaches you...but it is well worth it!!! If you can afford it do it, but I would recommend that you do as many jumps as possible in a short period of time so you can retain the skills better and build off them. Go for it!

SkyU is good for learning how to fly your body surfaces, although it's belly to earth it does teach you how to manuver. DeLand, Cross Keys, the Ranch (NY) all also have top rate free-fly schools from what I've seen (not meaning thre aren't more out there, I've just been around these ones)
