tunnel running costs breakdown

Recommended Posts

Indoor skydiving Germany has some data on Energy consuption on their webpage. http://www.isg-group.de/en/products-services/tunnel-products/
So if you are running their medium sized tunnel you would nee 400KW for an hour, you need 400kwh. A good commercial price for electricity in Germany is probably 20cent/kwh so you would be looking at 80€/hours energy cost .
Does that help?
If it does not cost anything you are the product.

Thank you very much.

Based on these calculations, my initial hypothesis that flying time in a tunnel is mostly expensive due to power costs is wrong.

This is probably a good thing as the power costs are probably the the most challenging to diminish.

Can anyone else pitch in to make me understand where all my money is going? :P

A 14ft tunnel uses up to 1000kw (http://aerodium.technology/en/models/models/recirculation/) and commercial energy in the UK looks to be worth 11.5p/kwh (http://www.businesselectricityprices.org.uk/). So if the tunnel ran for 85% of the open hours (8am – 10pm say) at an average of ~ 70% power daily running cost average out to be ~ £80/hr.

Add 2 reception staff, ~5 instructors, couple of higher ups (managers/marketing/it staff), cost of marketing, insurance, taxes, building costs, maintenance etc etc I'd be guessing a UK tunnel probably has an operating expense of very roughly ~£300-£350/hr? Just a guess :S

Hi wallop,

Quote

I am wondering,

I cannot answer your question in specifics. However, one opened 4 months ago about 10-15 minutes from my house. It is directly across the highway from the largest, weathiest shopping center in the state; and it is within the urban growth boundary ( that means land is very scarce ).

Some how I think the cost of the land ( initial purchase ) and the property taxes are significant.

Hope this helps somewhat,

Jerry Baumchen
