scooterskydives 0 #1 July 23, 2005 I teach at a dropzone where the corn is now towering at 8-10 ft tall and I was wondering, what do other teach or suggest to teach the students about landing in the corn if they can't avoid it????If God wanted man to stay on the ground. He would of put roots on them instead of feet. loving life GO-N-UP
bodypilot1 0 #2 July 23, 2005 No.1- DONT! No.2- Flare at the tops of the corn, hold the toggles down, and prepare to do a GREAT PLF, as they sink into the stalks.... Otherwise any forward movement horizontally through the stalks will probably cut them up or knock them out. Be safe. pbla4024 0 #3 July 23, 2005 Remember way out of corn after landing. It's a bit annoying to spend few hours walking in corn. Fido
Andy9o8 0 #4 July 24, 2005 By coincidence, there's an active thread on landing in corn in Safety & Training: Clicky
jtlmd 0 #5 July 24, 2005 That corn out there really is tall right now and the two posts hardly seem mere coincidence since both of the posters teach at the same DZ. Same DZ, Same Corn. Both great teachers too. A great DZ by the way!
mdrejhon 8 #6 August 18, 2005 There is a cornfield only 100 meters from the peas at my dropzone. I'm glad I did my AFF-type freefall course in the spring, since I landed in the adjacent field a few times as a student.

riddler 0 #9 September 7, 2005 Landed in corn once on a demo jump. I figured better to land by the flag and make sure he was OK than just wait for him to walk or limp out. Corn was dead, and too high to see anything. I stuffed several dead cobbs in my jumpsuit and rig. When I walked out, the audience was long gone, but I started stripping in front of my fellow jumpers, and throwing out cobbs periodically Anything to make my friends laugh.Trapped on the surface of a sphere.
