I just got an e-mail from 'packerdana' that his father, Jack Joerns D-537, passed away on Friday June 12.
Jack was featured on the cover of National Geographic jumping a Para-Commander into the mountians of South America in the early 60's.

I'm not sure whether it was him on the cover; I'll have to find my issue or ask Peter Lake or Dick Tomkins, both of whom were also on the expedition.

I just started a Blue Skies forum about Jack. I would love to hear more stories about him - I only met him when he was in his 90's and well past his jumping days. He still hit on me and every female that walked by however :-)

He was really fun even in old age. We'll miss old Jack at the dz...

I had a book Parachuting Folklore (M. Horan) and there a few pictures of Susan in it. As I recall, she was a national S&A champion once or twice.
Was she still active in sport after her competitive career?

I jumped with your mom and dad in Texas in the early 1960s. Please give your mom my regards. Last time I saw them was about '76 at an AIAA symposium on aerodynamic decelerators (parachutes). She was working towards becoming an MD. Hope she made it.
