***BIG NEWS

My book, DB Cooper and the FBI - A Case Study of America's Only Unsolved Skyjacking, is now available at Amazon, in a Kindle version, which is an e-book. The text reads very easily on a commuter screen, but is designed for tablets and such, too.

I am so excited!

My Amazon site is also set up for discussions, ala blogging, so you can interact with a broader audience than here or at the dbcooper forum. $6.99 gets you in the game in the USA, and in about 90 days I'll be seeing about $4. But if you want to buy it in Russia, it's gonna cost you $89. (?) Italy is eleven Euros. Hmmmmm....

Also, if anyone who like to post a review at Amazon, I'd be most appreciative.

I fully support this book, Bruce...but I will give you my standard warning regarding reviews. If people see 'shill' type reviews there, (glowing reviews of the book given by people you know personally who are not listed under 'Verified Purchase') you will get hammered by long-term Amazon reviewers. And they will start countering with one-star reviews to bring down your overall rating. So don't get your friends and family to do reviews, because the REAL reviewers at Amazon will teach you a lesson. They see shills all the time. And they don't like shills. And remember...if this happens to you their reviews will stay with that book until eternity. Be careful.

To show you I am telling the truth about this stuff, I once published a short-story collection for Kindle. It was a sci-fi collection from authors worldwide. Well...this one author who contributed decided to review the book in general. I messaged him and said: 'Take down your review please', because I knew other Amazon reviewers would eventually see his name in the book itself. He refused. I pulled the book from Amazon, took out his story, and replaced it with one by somebody else. Then his review worked, because he wasn't in the book anymore. Never get your friends to review your own book at Amazon. It will only cause you misery from the people who have been doing reviews there for years.

Trust me on this. We have more than twenty-five Kindle books going at Amazon to date. If I do a review of your book, it will be a fair one, I will say I know you, and I will actually BUY the book first.

On your pricing problem: Maybe someone forgot to check the boxes for all the foreign markets that say this:

'Set UK price automatically based on US price' (followed by the other foreign markets)

There are like 13 or 14 foreign markets. Each check box for these markets must be checked. It's under Rights and Pricing for your book. Most of your sales will be US, UK, and Canada. Some Germany. Sounds like the Italy pricing is off. Eleven euros? Sounds high, even with the European VAT (value added tax) charge.

Fair enough. Thanks.

I fully support this book, Bruce....and then all that other stuff.

Lord, have mercy.

This is not funny, and I gave Bruce good advice. Go ahead and review the book, give it a glowing five stars without a comprehensive reason why...see what happens.

............................................................................................................

I'm constantly amazed and astounded. I didn't say it was funny, Robert, and I don't doubt that you can and will give him all the advice that he can stomach. And I'm not disavowing any accomplishments or knowledge you have -- if I remember correctly you learned about shill reviews the hard way -- but who in the world said anything about giving him shill reviews or that they give a rat's eyeball whether you support him or not.

To be honest, I just thought that it was kind of pathetic that Bruce comes on here very excited about his new book, and you start in on what he should do or shouldn't do and how you know best, and he better check this and check that because it sounds like he might be wrong, and you know it because yada yada, yada whatever --- instead of just, for once ---At least for your first response --- offering a simple "congratulations, Bruce" and being done with it.
No offense, Robert, but everything is just not all about you.

Sometimes less is more. Good night.

Well, if it is the last word, it is only because you kept asking me to respond.

Many of the articles related to the Amboy chute are no longer valid links on the internet. That's one problem. And I suppose you won't take my word on the phone call to our office. Okay, I can see that. (edited here because I can't recall whether it was Ayn Dietrich or Fred Gutt who called)

This is about the closest quote I can find on short notice, that still exists:

Quote

'From the best we could learn from the people we spoke to, it just didn’t look like it was the right kind of parachute in any way,” Robbie Burroughs, an agent, told The Associated Press. (highlighted part in bold)

Notice she doesn't say anything about anyone being allowed to examine the chute in person.

***'...from the people we SPOKE to...'

In fact, when Cossey saw it, they actually put it into the trunk of a car and drove it to his house.

Look, if you don't believe that's how it went down with the investigation into the chute, you should inquire with the FBI.

I never said what I believe, Robert. I just said that you were claiming something that didn't have any basis is fact.
By no definition is "speaking to someone" exclusive to a telephone.

Dang, you just lost your charity 100 easy dollars. I knew you couldn't resist, but I actually had a infinitesimal twinge of surprise... or maybe it was disappointment that some poor rescued cats might now miss a meal. ;):)

Don't kid yourself. Your "theory" is just your imaging things that you are not familiar with.

WHEN THE RIPCORD IS PULLED UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES RELATED TO COOPER'S JUMP, THE CANOPY IS GOING TO COME OUT OF THE PACK.

EVEN IF THE CANOPY DOESN'T INFLATE, AT 225 MPH THE DRAG FROM THE UNOPENED CANOPY WILL BE SUFFICIENT TO PULL YOUR ASS RIGHT OFF THOSE STAIRS.

YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A CHANGE TO GET BACK UP INTO THE CABIN TO PUT ON THE OTHER PARACHUTE.

I don't know exactly what 377 told you (would 377 clarify if necessary?), but I imagine he was only discussing the best way to avoid such things as tumbling and disorientation. I doubt very much if 377 was talking about "testing" a parachute to see if it would work.

Robert99

If the pilot chute launches and hits the slipstream, even if the canopy doesn't inflate, you will probably be pulled off the stairs and fast. It doesn't take much surface area to generate a large force in 200 mph of relative wind. The pilot chute and the attached unopened extended canopy would likely be plenty.

If the FBI sabotaged a chute so that the ripcord handle wasn't connected to the pins or if they otherwise rigged it so that the pack would stay closed after a pull, then you could climb back up the stairs no problem.

One page back Cooper is jumping at 175mph.
This page Cooper's semi-opened chute is enduring drag at 225mph and then eight lines down at 200mph.
Keep up the good work you guys.

Rikes, math is not quite our strong suit around here.

It reminds me of my last wife when I asked her how many men she had slept with. I kept raising the, um, "mph" until we were at 200 and she just laughed. As for, um, jumping at higher speeds, I defer to my good friend Robb Heady. He has the cajones to jump at 300-plus.

BTW: I sold another book today! Look out Dan Brown and JK Rawlings!

For the record, my book says Cooper jumped at 175. It had been a bit over 200 (205?) when DBC asked Rataczak to slow it down and Bill lowered the flaps to 30 degrees and speed to 175mph.

All of those different numbers are just to see if you are paying attention.

When Cooper jumped, the airliner was cruising at about 170 Knots Indicated Airspeed (KIAS). This is what the pilots were seeing on their Airspeed Instruments.

It is also the same value the crew would see on their instruments if the airliner was at Sea Level flying in a standard atmosphere (such as the 1962 US Standard Atmosphere).

Correcting that 170 KIAS value for the 10,000 feet altitude and temperature, the speed of the airliner with respect to the air mass surrounding it is about 195 Knots True Airspeed (KTAS).

Knots, or Nautical Miles Per Hour, is the standard unit for speed in Commercial and Military Aviation. A Knot is equal to 1.15 Statute Miles Per Hour (MPH).

So for the masses, that 195 KTAS becomes about 225 MPH. This is actually the "free stream velocity" of the air, with respect to the airliner, outside the air mass disturbed by the airliner's passing. Say a point that would be 200 or 300 feet abeam of the airliner at the instant it passed by.

I wasn't going to post until I read your post - I just had to post....in response to that one

Not much here in the way of solid information anymore. Getting rather boring and repetitive.

I have been having some very interesting conversations with others who do not post on this thread.

ODD that one individual who has never read this thread made the same assumption I did about a couple of books Duane place in my cupboard in 1990...and then seemed upset I was using the books.

Wondered if that was HOW Tina entertained or distracted Cooper....I was shocked this person made that statement & yet this was only the second time I ever had a conversation with this person & maybe only 3 minutes of the conversation was about Cooper.

Was a little difficult to contain myself, considering the person never reads any article or book on Cooper.

A casual mention of the content in one of the books led this person to make this comment OUT of the Blue. Was difficult to contain myself and not talk about Cooper.

Perhaps GOD had a hand in this!
Perhaps GOD has a plan for my life!
Perhaps GOD is leading me now!
I REALLY do believe this.

Those who perpetuate fiction perhaps need to go back in time & find the real hero of 1971.

Hopefully God will let the world know before my time comes that what I have said is true. I was with Weber for 18 yrs & the FBI spent about 2 month investigating his old files & talking to a couple of friends Weber had while we were married.

They didn't inteview individuals he spent time with in Jefferson & Canon.
BIG OLE mistake.

I can never figure out who says what in that other place. Jerry Thomas and I have our differences but there was conversation with him and Mr. H back in the day.

Jerry did find caves along the Washougal and I was also told about the cave by Duane. Maybe why Jerry went there.

I do not remember if it was a satchel he found but yes he did find something...but, I just do not remember what it was.

There were lots of article following JT's search and some of them I believe were posted on this thread...a 2 page spread about some suspects JT had also.

Mr. H was the one who put me intouch with JT - but JT was every which way but right regarding the description I gave him and went on to say they did not exist...but when I was talking to JT on the phone - I did not know that JT was misleading me.

I have often wondered why he said they did not exist...when I was out there in 2010 I found most of the places and they did exist...remember in 2010 I was behind the wheel of the car and following my memory of the trip I took with Duane.

I made that trip to convince myself that I was WRONG, but I came home more convinced than ever...

There was a bridge JT told me didn't exist and it was there - but, Duane did not mention Cooper except at one point. It was old memories with the GUYS.....places and things they did and people he knew. The Dalles will always stand out and somewhere in all of the old archives is a picture of Duane Weber or what ever name he was using...Duane told me with was with a man in the Fire Dept....that man was a family friend and Duane supposedly worked sweeping out a shoe story and washing dishes at the old Tavern. He talked about a woman who live there and that would be the woman he went to see leaving me along in The Dalles a motel for over 5 hr.

I drove almost to the state line and then started the trip as I remembered it but spending lots of time in the areas...often back tracking. I found the grave yds and the area he took me to the Rocks and the bridge that NO one would ever forget.

Now I forget the names but I remember what they looked like in 1979 and in 2010.
I will never regret the money I spent for that - money I could use now that I need lost of assistance at time and could help to off set things....but I did it and I would do it again if I could..

I found were the store was and the motel where a woman who was related to the airport in the target zone the FBI investigated in 1971.

He son was a jumper and he had or managed a motel...not too far from where she had a shop...and the gas pump across the street - the Biggs area.

So many memories and they are fading, but I wrote about them in this thread..
Thing JT told me did not exist but they did exist. One would have to go back and find those posting - as memories of names and place are fading rapidly.

Yes, there was talk the Plane flew over the Cames area and the airport on the OR side...but the FBI denies this - the same airport near an industrial area Duane took me to in 1979 and told me about some guys that used to jump in an airstrip and field. In fact I was so enticed by the area i stayed at a motel that was NOT there in 1979, but there in 2010...it had all changed but I could still remember the things he pointed out to me and the road he pulled into and told me he used to know 3 guys who had a cabin on a river or creek down that way...I thought we were heading home...but he said to me "You want to go to Tahoe" and I asked if we could afford it and the told me "the company gave me a nice bonus".

We went to Tahoe and I have told that story and the casinos but I won't repeat all of that...the names of place I am forgetting, but the memories of the places he showed me and where we stayed I can see those in my mind just no longer names of hotels & other details.

Time and my health is taking its toll on the things I have told over the yrs in this thread...but I regret none of it and I want so badly to go back, but realize that will never happen.....

JT is supposedly a college graduate, but with his spelling - I never got it....I do know there are those who cannot spell or use proper grammar and yet made Straight A's ....it is how their mind works - taking the time to get things straight when you are writing them doesn't seem important - just the story itself.

Returning here after a long time .... was stuck in the "no internet land" so thought might as well write-edit-rewrite-edit-rewrite, the Cooper Comic Strip ... (deadline has passed and has been extended a few times already :S)

Anyways was wondering if anything new popped up and realized that I have missed..... well ... NOTHING!! :D

Anyways, I was debating with the editor who sternly stated that he will publish only if it makes "Factual Sense"... hahaha Good luck to him

Thanks, Sail. I sold 12 books yesterday! Woo-hoo!

As for marketing, the Kindle folks will help me take it to the next level. Nimi Wrecks is helping with library and historical club speaking engagements, and Shutter is gonna make a promotional video, so we's rollin'.

***lol...Good night, for real this time.

I'm betting myself 100 dollars to my favorite charity that I will respond if he posts again.

lol...got to see how strong the addiction is.......

Well, you asked the same damn question three times, like I'm your personal Google researcher...

Then when I took the time to screenshot and edit the actual email I sent the Seattle FBI...where it mentions I referenced the articles...

You didn't even bother with an answer. So next time, don't bother asking. Save us both a lot of time. :)
lol...are you serious? I don't know why I bother but....

1. I didn't bother with an answer because you have yet to produce an iota of verification to back up your claims so it is useless to go round and round and round.

2. You sending an email to the FBI is not proof of anything. It's just an email. I send a bunch every day. Does it mean I got a response. No, it means nada. Besides you said you read what the FBI said in an article. I say prove it. You didn't. But I'm gonna let you off the hook - you can quit being "my personal google researcher" nowB|.

3. I bet myself that I would respond to you. It's called reverse psychology with self. I won. I made a donation to the local food bank anyway.

4. As to Cossey, had you bothered to read the post that I made to you, you would have seen this which pretty much tells you I'm done with the conversation because it is useless to try to discuss anything with you:

Quote

....In the excerpt I posted it is obvious that he was referring to this ownership in the vein of "yes, they're mine because I put them together." To refresh your memory or in case you missed it, the following excerpt from the Oregonian, dated November 26, 1971..

The parachute backpack on which the hijacker depended was a new rig specifically made for stunt fliers, not skydivers and had never been used, "Yep, that's my chute," said Earl Cossey, president of Seattle Sky Sports when the parachute and harness were described to him. Both backpacks supplied the hijacker were made by Cossey, but owned by Norman Hayden, a stunt pilot at Renton Aviation Co.

lol....but you know what -- lucky for you, I'm done with this. Going in for a dropzone intervention.
I will give you that he claimed ownership in a backhanded way. Hell....I'm feeling the wine, I mean magnanimous --- so I will even give you that he claimed this outright to other news media besides Bruce if you need that.

This is a silly argument when the end result is the same. But I do not feel bad about trying to keep you and the narrative honest.

So the takeaway:....

Call Ol Coss a liar and a fraud, and try to pretend that he is irrelevant. What I say is that he is most likely a victim of human frailty -- in that the fish just kept getting bigger and bigger. Kind of reminds me of some other folks I know.

Yet and still, his non-ownership / non-delivery and/or misrepresentation of same does NADA to change the fact that his knowledge of the parachutes, as a master rigger of those chutes, was superior to that of someone that never used and likely never saw the chutes. Tunnel vision just prevents you from giving credit where credit is due.

5. On another matter while I'm on a roll and before I get bored with this again......Bruce never asked anyone for a "shill" review. Never, Not Once. So get over yourself. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. :)

Something's hinky with my firefox tonight - not loading pages all the way - guess it's telling me I need to get off the internet and go to bed -- only read the first part but looks to be very interesting so far.

Anyway ...I got my copy - just saving it for the weekend. Dead tired
