This Dragon Rapide? How the heck did someone land inside the plane (without doing an intentional plane-to-plane transfer?

If I remember correctly it was a formation load and one plane got under the other. The Dragon Rapide had a fabric fusalage and and he went through it.

I believe I remember that picture. Yes, it was a formation load and the picture I saw showed the hole and a plot of the jumper strikes...

The first jumper glanced off the fuselage unhurt. The second jumper went through the top of the plane right behind the cockpit and broke one or both (can't remember) wrist(s). The third jumper saw what was happening and stopped in the door. If you plot the two strikes, the third jumper would most probably have collided with the left engine.

Love to see that shot again!

Speaking of mid air collisions with aircraft and skydivers, in the early 80s a jumper was killed in freefall when he was hit by a passing military C-130. I think he hit the horizontal stabilizer and no, the aircraft wasn't involved in the jump operation. Seems this was around the San Deigo area.
The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

I've met the pilot of the the Lockheed. He was being vectored for a visual @ NAS North Island .

Jumper first impacted the wing between the fuselage and the #3 nacelle, then the horizontal stab.

I think you may be thinking of Bob Ackerman who I thought was despatching students out of one of 2 DeHavilland Rapides in the UK. He jumped after the last student and 'entered' the other Rapide through the roof and landed with the aircraft! That's my recollection of it anyway.

Well, I would guess:
"Bob Stroud best uses his engineering degree from Oklahoma State University in designing chutes and safety systems. These designs are actively used in safety applications from cars to boats to rockets to aircraft and more. He has over 1000 parachute jumps (many testing his own products), spent 7 years in the Army Special Forces and is an examiner for the FAA."

But his name isn't on any else's roster for this picture here.

Unless there are two separate incidents resulting in a picture of a five way round with a Southwest Airlines jet in the background over Reunion Tower in downtown Dallas, then either racerman or Bob Stroud is well, uhm ............. mistaken.:S

The story I heard at the time said the jumper was still in a 4way formation when he intercepted the aircraft, doesn't seem possible...just wondering if anyone knows the whole story.


I think NickDG posted something once about seeing it happen?
