howardwhite 3 #1 December 23, 2007 O.K. enough of the wimpy, look it up in Janes quizzes. This is for the drivers. What airplane cockpit is this? And did you ever fly one? HW
JerryBaumchen 1,046 #2 December 23, 2007 It's a REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT cockpit. Heck, anyone knows that. JerryBaumchen

pilotdave 0 #5 December 23, 2007 Howard DGA-15P (N681CF c/n 909 ). Took a lot of searching! Google is my friend. That still took me an hour to figure out. http://1000aircraftphotos.com/Contributions/Liefer/3420L-1.jpg I came across THIS cockpit while searching, and I thought it looked awfully similar so I did more searching for Howards. howardwhite 3 #7 December 23, 2007 Dave I'm glad to have given you something to occupy your time on a non-jumpable New England weekend. You are, of course, right. The plane is still registered, in Alaska, and yes, Rob, it has a R985 radial. I was surprised at Pop's guess of a Staggerwing Beech. The Staggerwing's yoke (or yokes) are mounted on a central column, as, e.g. in a Twin Otter. As the exit door on a Howard is the right seat door, such a column would, I think, be kind of in the way of a jumper (often, in my limited experience, a static line student) sitting facing the rear with his back to the panel. The other fun thing about the Howard as a student aircraft is that they had to get out and get to the bottom step of the "ladder" while holding on to the strut. Krip 2 #8 December 23, 2007 Hi Howard Not a pilot and don't doubt that the airplane is a "Howard" We used to jump one back in the day recognize the outside of the plane but don't recall the depressed instrument panel. Different model numbers? One Jump Wonder
pilotdave 0 #9 December 23, 2007 Non jumpable? I made two jumps yesterday! It was beautiful. The guy in the pic made 6 jumps yesterday. Dave
howardwhite 3 #10 December 23, 2007 Oh. I thought it was going to be more like this. Gee, if I had known how beautiful it really was, I would have been there.HW
piper17 1 #11 December 23, 2007 If the temperature on the ground is less than my age, I don't jump! I've never seen snow around when it was 62+ degrees! poppenhager 1 #12 December 23, 2007 WOW,Guess I'm really getten OLD! I should have cought that since I owned 2 DGA's and have 1200 hours flyin em and many 100's of jumps from em too.......
pilotdave 0 #13 December 23, 2007 My definition of beautiful seems to change over the winter. If I can jump and I'm not in pain from the cold when I land, it's beautiful. It was barely even snowing! Dave
