Olde pictures

Recommended Posts

Yes, that's Karen Dodd, Tom Allen, and me. This was at Borderland (San Diego) in about 1979.

In "old demo" I'm not sure if it's "Barry Chase" but he's on a pretty well known CRW team in the '80s. The one, I think, that morphed into the "Ghost Riders" in the '90s.

Steve Vickers was a student of mine.

The last two photos might throw you as they are BASE related . . .

nick that label called Tom Allen in the demo pic should be Rick Horn.
Bob Baxter looks like the guy, with mustache, right, front, sitting
Myles Elsing looks like the guy in front of Fred.
The oriental guy in front *might* be Yuki.
Guy with hat on left might be Jay Fergoso.

The last two photos might throw you as they are BASE related... Photo: Whos_Who.jpg (55.4 KB)

The tall one, 2nd from left, white shirt, looks like how I would imagine a young Bill Legg. But I didn't know Bill when he was that young, so I'm not sure.

The short one, 2nd from right, with the hot babe hanging on him (no wonder he's smiling), looks like Eric (can't think of his last name). He became a Houston police officer.

No way, Jan, I know both Rick and Tom well, and it's Tom Allen when he wore a beard. Besides Rick is way taller, about as tall as Fred Lundquist.

And in the earlier Bird photo that isn't Rick Horn either as he didn't start jumping until 1978 . . . (kind of a newbie, LOL).

And that's not Yuki either . . .

Jay's right on all (no one around BASE back in the day would forget Mary!)

I don't recall the last fellow's name either, but I did know him at one time.

The "Yellow Shirts" photo is from Bridge Day '85 if that helps . . .

OK, here are some more, but these are in worse condition, despite liberal application of film cleaner:S.
CaptHook is another view of the Sky Pirates; Al Krueger and Hank Asciutto nearest the door. By the way, I've learned that these were probably taken at one of the Tahlequah nationals, perhaps at the small "practice" DZ in Waggoner.
GCS is probably also at Tahlequah and I assume GCS stands for Greene County Skydiving.
DC3 is in really rough shape but has a certain nostalgia, no?
Group is another bunch in front of the Beech. I don't recognize any of them.

I see Phil Smith, Kevin Venell and maybe Phil Mayfield in the BASE picture.

Kevin is who I did my round-round CRW with :D

Wendy W.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

How 'bout this one . . .

NickD :)BASE 194

L to R
Nick D, Dick Pedley, Todd Shoebotham(sp?), 4th guy ??? (maybe Dick's son, but I've never met him)

.

The standing lineup is correct, and the guy kneeling is Rich Stein.
I'm one object away from having my Rich Stein BASE number...I jumped a large western lake, a popular Florida tower, and the New with Rich. Now if we can only find a B somewhere close by.

Correct again, Jay . . . (Maybe "you" should be writing the book!")

Jan, Dick's son was named "Richard" too (after his Dad) and was present when Dick was killed jumping from a Building in Wilshire district of Los Angeles. That was a horrible night . . .

I miss Pedley. I believe (I'm pretty sure anyway) he was the original "Dick" from the tee-shirt that said, "See Dick Hook, Don't be a Dick!"

One night Dick and I had planned a building jump and I was to meet him downtown at 2:00 AM. I decided to take a nap and overslept waking up at 4:00 AM. I jumped into my car and drove the 40 miles thinking there's no way he'd still be waiting for me. (This was a few years before cell phones). When I arrived and turned the corner by the building I saw Dick's parked car.

I walked up to the driver side and there he was fast asleep up against the window. I knocked and he rolled the window down and he said, "You ready? Let's go!"

He was a classic . . .

And who's this?

"Freedom Bridge, Az" in the early '90s . . .

NickD :)BASE 194

Other that the obvious Nick D and Anne H in the center, my wild ass guess is
Don Swaze(sp?), Simon, Jana L., Chad Z.
no idea on who the two youngin's are

That's an odd variety of footwear on the group.
WTF were you doing?

We were crossing a freezing ass creek and I came prepared . . . the rest wore garbage bags . . .

And that's the last photo of Pat Swayze with two good feet.

He had one amputated on a San Deigo tower jump that went wrong shortly after.

That was my question when I saw the picture of Don. Thanks for the answer.

Haven't seen Don is quite awhile. He hasn't made it to our "Pieces of Eight" gatherings, nor visited Perris, in a long long time.

I sent an e-mail with the picture off to Jim Wallace. Let's see what he says...

Just got an e-mail back from The Jim Wallace. Yep, the 'guy picking his nose' is him. Wow. When was that taken?
