Does anyone remember the term 'zoomie'?

Back in the day, there used to be some sequence of terms that referred to stages of a jumper's skydiving career. I remember the list including Zoomie, Junior Zoomie, and Skygod.

Anyone remember the details or do I need to up my meds?

That may be a throwback from the US Air Force/AF Academy.
The flying cadets there, as well as all AF junior officers are known as "Zoomies".
If you've ever shared airspace with them, you'd know why.

I only remember junior zoomies. Of course, since we both jumped in Texas in the 70's, that probably doesn't help, does it

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

I learned to jump in Homestead FL back in the early 80's I definately remember that term & I definately remember being a Zoomie as well.
I understood it to refer to beginners whose skills weren't quite up to speed yet, so they zoomed past their intended slots & even sometimes zoomed all over the sky.

Since I was usually in the base ( fast faller) I never qualified as a zoomie...

But I sure have witnessed a few, been bombed by a few, and done my best to avoid a few..

When I used the term, we were thinking about a young jumper trying to dock. He'd zoom past, maybe stop and zoom back - you know Combat RW

I think that in the mid-70's we used it as a derogatory term for low experience (or low skill) relative workers.
