micro 0 #1 February 12, 2006 It's not really skydiving, but it's interesting, nonetheless... Most of you know of Jim Bede's interesting home-built planes, such as the BD-5 (think James Bond mini-jet from Octopussy and Coors Silver Bullet, see pic) Bede also came up w/ the Bede Wing, a sort of canopy w/ a closed nose that would be filled with air or helium. The canopy could be towed behind a car or ground launched or, if filled with helium, it could just launch you from the ground. See pics of wing and inflation/recovery/storage unit I miss Lee. And JP. And Chris. And...
Trae 1 #2 February 12, 2006 Nice aircraft. I wonder what stopped the helium parasail idea from taking off ? Maybe the price/availability of heliuim /need for recovery tank held it back or kept it out of general use .?? Now if Mr Bede was designing helium filled wingsuits perhaps there'd be a quantum leap . Trae 1 #7 February 13, 2006 in reply to "check the woopy-kite " ......... Whoopee Wonder how that'd fly with the pilot inside the wing rather than under it.? Stability issues perhaps??
nitrochute 2 #8 February 13, 2006 the one in the picture does. but that may have been after snyder threatened to enforce his patent.he(snyder) had a picture of the bede wing that did not use flares and he really had a case of the ass over it.

Vale I was working on one much more buoyant than Helium. Fill it with vacuum, which is much lighter than He, or even hydrogen. There are still some bugs to be worked out though. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
