Dirty Ed dead!

Recommended Posts

Hi Spark,
I weep. A piece of my heart has just died also. George "Dirty Ed" Edwards was my good friend. From my first daze at Elsinore in 1967 onward, Dirty was always there with his smile, humor, wit and snide remarks!! "Blue Skys Dirty Ed!!!!"

Truly sorry to hear about Dirty Ed. He was a landmark in Southern California Skydiving. Always cheerful and a pleasure to be around. I am sorry for the loss.

Tony,

Are we talking about the same Dirty Ed.:P

Yes, I knew the sweet, wonderful, and fiesty man that he speaks of. He was all of the above and then some. I guess I've known him in his less that gruff years. Hell, I even talk to Bob Butt now. They must be getting old!:P

This is a sad day for the Air Trash family. I will miss Ed's cantankerous but humorous ways. Dirty Ed was one of the original "dirty dozen" of Air Trash. Who can name the other 11 ? Ed, have you recited "Old Nell" up there yet ??? Rest in peace brother.

Hey Buddy, I just found this website. Cool site. Dirty Ed? What can I say? Hmmmm!? I met him in 1970. I knew him, I loved him. He made me laugh, he made me cry. He helped me, he hurt me. HE WAS DIRTY ED!!!! My Skydiving HERO. I Truly Loved This Man. He was a Big, Bad Sweetheart. This is a woman's point of view. Men didn't know him the same as us women did. Am I right LADIES? Yes I am. He will be remembered with a smile! :) Sandy

Hey Sandy! Ya this is a cool site to keep up with what's going on in the real world of Sky Diving. And yes, from what I have been reading, Dirty had a completely different relationship with his women friends than the men... We men will miss him just the same though... Hope you can make it to the memorial on June 4th at Perris...

I got an email from Pat Swovelin last week.

I met Bill at Elsinore in 1964. It's funny, I thought
of him as "Dirty Ed" but I always called him "Bill"
out of habit.

He's in so many of my 60s Elsinore memories
that I don't even want to think about it, although
I have been.

He made a difference.

His life had meaning.

And a *lot* of jump stories :-) :-)

I remember the Orange Sunshine in Terry's
going away to jail cake.

Skratch,

You are right, his life did have meaning. I learn a lot about jumping and life in general from him.

I used to call him "Sweet William". I drove him nuts. But he liked it better then George.:P
