That said there are a number of places that do some tandems that have a local group. Many head off to Mesquite, which is a short drive (closer than Eloy) for the biggist fun jumping, but I don't know for sure if that is still the go to place. C Where are you moving from? It can get warm there...you might want to get acclimated for a couple of weeks before doing anything really strenuous outdoors? Mesquite is fun jumper friendly, but the landing area is super tight. Vegas Extreme is somewhat jumper friendly, but you need to have your own gear and your own coach to progress you. Eloy and Perris are the go to's. Also, the summer is the down time for jumping since it's so hot. PM me for more details. Skydive Las Vegas is a tandem mill only. Extreme skydive is not entirely fun jumper friendly.. No rental gear, no hook turns, expensive lift tickets (35$ to 12500 at last check), aad required, pac750. While there is no buildings or tree type of obstacles anywhere around, jump run is over the I-15 that has power lines running parallel just a few yards to the east. As long as you remain east of those lines, the biggest obstacle would be a 1-2 meter bush. Same landing area as Sin City. Mesquite is one hour away with rental gear, more reasonable lift prices, and a decent fun jump crowd. A caravan is available but is not in full time operation so call ahead if you don't like 182's. The view is beautiful and the harsh climate of the Las Vegas desert (last week it was recorded 45-55*C) is nearly non-existant being an hour north. Sin city skydiving, in addition to Extreme, is located in the Jean airport 30ish minutes south of the city . They fly a cargo exit piston 206 and because of the air density during severe summer months, can only maintain 4 jumpers to altitude. Aad is not required and hook turns are not only allowed but expected! Rental gear is available.... if you choose to use it. There's a casino within 100 yards with 25$ rooms and a buffet that serves its purpose in times of emergencies (like when you can't find any scraps in the airport dumpster). I have one my AFF grad jump left and will be trying to get my A license before I move, assuming the weather cooperates. I had heard before that Mesquite's landing area is small, which is a big concern for me.... my canopy and landing skills definitely need work. Perris and Elsinore seem to be the next closest, but I really want some good guidance and coaching. It's not that small, but the terrain surrounding it is intimidating. And it's all gravel. You WILL learn accuracy and you WILL stand up your landings there. I am moving this week and have my A! Yay! Not-as-good news, this whole "looking for gear" thing is still a work in progress, so I will be renting wherever I end up jumping for the next month or so. Thanks for all the advice. It looks like I might hit up Perris or Elsinore and take some of their classes to help hone my skills, as well as hit up Mesquite and just get a general feel for the different DZ's. I did AFF at Sincity Skydiving then gave them a 4 star review and the owner threatened to sue me. I got my A license at Mesquite and learned a lot, especially how to land in tight areas.
