rhys 0 #1 July 19, 2010 Hi all, I am looking at the level of interest in a boogie or a package deal for fun jumpers at our tranquil new dropzone in New Zealand. Our location is second to none with views at altitude of hundreds of mountains, many glaciers, rainforest, the ocean, lakes, rivers..the whole nine yards. We are fortunate enough to have access to a fleet of aircraft including 3 -27 Pilatus Porters, I doubt we could get 3 of them as they are used for ski plane ops into the local glaciers but at least one or two for such an event depending on numbers attending. We should be using one full time before long, it is early days yet. but to cut a long story short, do you guys think there would be enough interest in a boogie as far as new zealand from the rest of the world? There is only a handful of fun jumpers in NZ, Australia has a reasonable market but Europeans and North Americans would be the target. Our village is small but boasts an impressive array of activities from hunting and fishing, hot pools, glacier hiking, quad biking, mountain biking, helecopter scenics, ski planes etc etc. There are over 5000 commercial beds in the village and at this time of year, the weather is great and the village is almost empty. I was thinking at this time next year or sometime over the winter here we could have a boogie with added attractions such as the above mentioned with a package and high altitude skydiving 20k etc. I would expect it would not be a cheap package but it would be certainly next level. take a look at our website www.skydivefranz.co.nz (new and not fully developed only been up a week) and tell me what you reckon. Escape the heat and dust and cool of in little old NZ, lord of the rings country etc.etc. I 'will' be putting together a package for fun jumpers to do this as a small group (2+) but how many of you would be prepared to pay good money for such a boogie so far away? I realise there is not that much money in it after all the running around but the aim is to bring business to the other operators and accomodations in Franz Josef during the quiet season and when the weather is very stable to get them to promote us in the summer when thay are busy, as well as install some sport skydiving back into the sausage factory of NZ. Will_Evo 0 #2 July 19, 2010 I am moving to Hawaii next month and am planning to visit NZ anyway...visiting during a boogie would be even better though! I'm interested in details. -EvoZoo Crew
rhys 0 #3 July 19, 2010 It is all just thoughts at the moment but if it does go down it will be around this time next year. Just collecting ideas and seeing who might be interested and what could be incorporated to gain more interest... It is also ski season so skiing and snowboarding could be done in the same trip. We are at sea level so not so cold as queenstown etc. but that is where the skiing is and only a few hours drive through world heritage park to get there... one of the warmest/least cold places for winter in NZ is here on the west coast, still cold however but the hot pools are even better then. Bolas 5 #4 July 19, 2010 Glacier and beach jumps in one boogie would be unique. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
selbbub78 0 #5 July 19, 2010 I'd definitely consider going to NZ for a boogie or otherwise! It sounds like it would be lots of fun, if I could pull it off. k-dubjumps 0 #6 July 19, 2010 I've been to New Zealand once before many years ago and I loved it. I was there this time of year and it was quite cold as its your winter. I'd personally prefer to go to a boogie in NZ during your summer (our winter). You'd also eliminate competing with so many other boogies during our summer months.Adrenaline is my crack DPH #3 D.S. #16 FAG #12 Muff Brother #4406

rhys 0 #8 July 19, 2010 Quote Glacier and beach jumps in one boogie would be unique. Smile the beach jumps we already have covered, the glacier jumps (actually landing on the glacier neve) would be tricky, possible but tricky. It would take an enormous amount of brown nosing the departmet of conservation, and the neve is at 7000' so landing would be tricky, but that is definately something worth looking into, if they can land at 12k at everest, then 7k in ice shouldn;t be a problem???"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix

You'd also eliminate competing with so many other boogies during our summer months. these are valid points, it is relatively cold but not bitter cold, the main thing is the weather is stable = no wind. Only one day have i landed in over 5 knots of wind (usually no wind!) since the start of June, in summer it is a different story. I have been jumping in a cotton jumpsuit and normal gloves (leather palm) no worries. I am hearing you on the competing with other boogies though. I'll have to watch the weather patterns and trends but accomodation is almost impossible for samll groups in summern let alone large ones, this town is like a beehive in summer."When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
rhys 0 #10 July 19, 2010 QuoteWould the jumpers all stay at the same hotel? That would depend on the numbers involved, there are a couple of large complexes but there could be varied price ranges as well, from backpacker to 5 star!"When the power of love overcomes the love of power, then the world will see peace." - 'Jimi' Hendrix
