When you spend as much time at your home DZ as I do it's easy to get so totally absorbed in the people and community that you kind of think it is totally unique in the world. It was so cool to see all the jumpers coming from other DZs to our home. The big groups with instructors and up-jumpers looking after their fledgling jumpers attending their first boogie. The small groups of close knit friends on a road trip to a cool event. The loners striking it out on their own. All things I've done myself. Thank you all for coming and I hope you had a blast.

Well said.

I would like to thank Jay & James first....but, it takes a lot of people to pull of an event on this scale.

I can say that everyone involved did a VERY good job.

Great Boogie, Great Dropzone.

If Skyfest is held here next year we will start making plans to attend now! :)
We will definitely be back to Skydive Carolina!

Don.

I am NOT being loud.
I'm being enthusiastic!

Then again, some of you guys posting in the off topic groups are fecking WEIRDOS. Just don't go sending me any midget goat porn or anything, alright? B|

In case it's not clear, Bob runs a photography business - you can easily buy copies of the photos on the web site. :)

SkyFest was great. I was, and am still, just trying to process it all. I know that J and James did so much more work than most people will ever realize, and I have the utmost respect for their vision and effort.

I learned a ton at this event. Some of the dz.comers that met me may think that I'm a bit stand-off-ish. Well, I spent a lot of my time at SF trying to keep from wussing out and heading home. It turns out that Friday AM, my SCR attempt concluded with a very big "learning experience" for me. I am pretty embarrassed about it, but my doctor says that with time and a nice prescription for pain-killers, I'll get over the after-effects of my biffed landing. As a result, I'll probably preach certain "thou shalt not _____ on landing" commandments for the rest of my time in the sport. So, if you noticed that I spent most of my time just walking the vendor tents with a painful look on my face instead of skydiving, that's because sitting was not a pleasant option (driving 4 hours leaning over the center console was about as bad), and walking came in second place.

Highlights for me were: meeting a ton of people, the repatriation of Delfina's rogue globe light, the stories that "older" folks shared, the great dz and dz staff, Dale's ice, digging into the cooler to find Gatorade on the bottom, receiving a scholarship from Chuting Star and the JSF, the free canopy control course with the PD guys, two sweet landings during the course, having one of the course's jumps provided in memory of Bob H., making my first Casa jump as a hop-n-pop, jumping without a jumpsuit for the first time (thanks to 100+ degrees in the shade), having Cyndi say how she was cold in the Casa (ha), meeting my PokerStars nemesis in person (sorry I never got to make that jump with you), thinking that I could make just one jump on Saturday and be alright, Jimmy's poetry reading, and leaving SF with the desire to have done so much more than I did...which drives me to be back next year without hesitation.

If the focus was on education, mission accomplished! I certainly learned a lot. And, a few people learned how to pronounce my name...though I liked Perra's pronunciation the best.

See you guys next year.

(if any of this doesn't make sense, it's probably the meds...thank you hydrocodone)

First, I have to say thanks to J. I had an small inside-look at what goes on behind the scenes preparing for Skyfest and I gotta tell you..the work, the effort the hours...it takes a special type of person to do this and J busted his ass to put on this event for us.

Thank you J.

Not forgetting his crew, Roxi and Patrick. They spent their entire time doing all the little things that made this event go smoothly for J and took a huge load off his shoulders.

Thank you Roxi and Patrick.

You know, of all the places that J could have held this event, his pick of Skydive Carolina turned out to be the best. We could not have asked for a better DZ nor a better group of people. I am just flabbergasted at all the work the Carolina crew put in for us and did it all with grace and smiling faces - well, DZO Danny never cracked a smile but he never has anyway.
:D:D
Antigua, Delfina, Alli, Dave...oh jeez, I can't name them all.

Thank you Carolina

All you manufacturers...you guys are top dogs. You were a major part of this event.

Thanks to all of you.

And...a special thanks to all who attended Skyfest. Especially to those who "Paid it Skyward". We had many, too many to name, experienced jumpers assisting SCR candidates. This is what Skyfest is all about..."Paying it Skyward".
Jimmy Tavino has been mentioned but I want to send him an extra-special thank you for his support, participation and giving of his time and money supporting the SCR Award efforts. He was a huge part of the SCR success. We had 22 SCR candidates, 21 paid, 17 on their knees and initiated. They may not realize it but Sherry Schrimsher was there to help with the pouring and that was something very special.

Thank you...again and again and again.

Tied in with the SCR jumps, I want to extend my personal thanks to Brad Cole of Sky Ventures Colorado, and our own Turtle for covering for me when the heat got me down. Youguys deserve a medal.

Thanks Brad and Turtle.

Not to be forgotten is all those who provided all those FREE loads...unbelievable. You guys are beyond praise. You don't know how many young jumpers got jumps that they could not afford otherwise.

Pilots -plane and -ballons, ground crews, manifest girls, clean-up crews, van drivers, local jumpers...all the behind the scenes people...Stand up and post and let everyone know who you are...you deserve the kudos coming your way.

One last thing...
Congrats to all the new SCR holders, Amazon and Jesse for the Speed records and all you new PMS ladies...especially those who let me lurk one of their jumps.

My reality and yours are quite different.
I think we're all Bozos on this bus.

I think most of us probably realize how damn blessed we are to be local to this DZ. I agree with everything you just said. Personally, I was having a really hard time dealing with the heat. I don't know if it was because I've been sick for months and on medication or what. Last year I was able to handle it. But they dealt with it for hours on end to do their job.

But the fact is so much of the Skydive Carolina staff put in so many hours of work and I never heard a single complaint about the heat or their jobs. Like you say it takes a special kind of person to do what they do.

I've never been to another drop zone yet. I'm not even sure I would want to. I know how fortunate I am, without having to know first hand what other drop zones are like. We have so much here, a gigantic landing area, big boogies, kick ass instructors, excellent safety, etc. It's because of the people. Not just the staff, but if the staff didn't do whey to do, especially people like James who constantly seems to be trying to make things better for all of us, it wouldn't be this way.

James has always been there and taken the time to listen to what I have to say and help me out. I want to thank him for that and everything he's done for me since I appeared on the DZ almost two years ago.

Pete Langahans was an instructor on most of my AFF jumps and wins awards at the Christmas parties for basically being a kick ass guy with a smile on his face. Definitely one of my favorite people on the DZ who I have the utmost respect for.

Hmmm do we need dropzone.com name badge t-shirts for the boogies?

Yes. With avatars.

Doesn't work too well for some people who change their avatars often. :D

Hmmmm, that gives me an idea. What if there was just a spot for a sticker that the person could printout their latest avatar? Different inks & label brands could be tested to find the one that will stick until peeled off and leave no residue. Damm now the printing scientist in me wants to go play. :)

surprised none of the regulars mentioned what e did 2 years ago. Made a white square so you could write your name in it. Ran out of time to do it this year, but will next, or maybe I will just sell the shirts anyway?

Will be posting again soon, probably will loose internet before i get to post this;)

Thanks all
