Dropzone for Aff in Belgium

Recommended Posts

Dear all :)

My sister, who I love more than anything on the world, has gotten quite a liking on skydiving and has decided to get her license.
She lives in Belgium and so wants to do it somewhere around there. I was wondering if you guys can recommend a place within driving distance from Brussels.
I would like for her to do it on a dropzone where safety comes first. A larger twin engine turboprop would be nice. Newish, well maintained gear is a must. She speaks French and English so any of those languages would do.
Thanks in advance :)

Skydive Flanders - http://www.pcv.be/

Has 3 DZs in Belgium - Schaffen, Moorsele, and Zwartberg.

I've jumped at Moorsele and I loved it there, fantastic DZ. And it is about 1 hour from Brussels I believe.
Sky Switches - Affordable stills camera tongue switches and conversion adaptors, supporting various brands of camera (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Panasonic).

I jump at Skydive Center Spa.

It's a nice DZ with nice people and very experienced AFF instructors.

I've never been to Zwartberg or Schaffen, but as far as I heard, both are very nice dropzones too. But they jump on weekends only. So if your sister planned to jump on workdays, she'd do better in Spa.

Thanks both of you :)

I guess Spa is the better option. She has a week off work and I think she wanted to try and finish it all in that week.
Ill probably come with and put some jumps in while she gets her stuff done :)

Best Regards

G!

I also jump in Spa. I got there my license last year, and I'm quite happy with them, even though I don't speak any of the major languages there (French, German or Dutch). Many, many people are fluent in English, and a couple of them even in Spanish. I have the feeling that the rigger can speak any language too haha (fluent in the 5 languages that I've said before). I have a friend that jumps in Spa too, and she drives from Brussels, so that shouldn't be a problem. Very international DZ, with people from Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Luxemburg, France, Spain, Russia, Poland...

Extra bonus: The landing area for students is HUGE, the hangar has pretty big carpeted area, they have caravan and grand caravan and often operate them simultaneously, and people from very good (competing worldwide with very good results) 4-way RW teams and VFS are around often (that doesn't make it necessarily better for AFF, but they should be doing something right to have them there ;-))

I visited Brussels last September and jumped at Spa. I loved it - great dropzone, beautiful facilities, very modern and like a previous poster said HUGE landing area and fast planes. I had also heard that the other DZs mentioned are great, but I can only speak from experience at Spa. Great place to jump.

Hey FastRodriguez!

I live in Belgium, and jump at Moorsele. I guess it'd be to much to ask to set up a blind date for a fellow jumper? :)

Anyway, as mentioned, in Flanders you have PCV with Schaffen, Zwartberg & Moorsele. Zwartberg en Moorsele both operate only on weekend with a caravan, Schaffen operates in weekend, using a supervan. Material is perfect and well maintained. AFF is pretty full at the moment, but it doesn't hurt to call and check it out anyway. Instructors are thorough, and take their time with every student for a good briefing and a video debrief.

Next to PCV, in Flanders you have Paraclub Hoevenen, bit smaller, haven't been there, only in weekends aswell, using a cessna 206.

Maybe a good mention:
July - August Moorsele is open on friday afternoons
13/7/13 - 21/7/13 Paraclub Hoevenen is open all week
20/7/13 till 27/7/13 Flanders Boogie at Moorsele (students are welcome), open all week with 4 planes (2 caravans, a skyvan and completely forgot what the 4th plane is)
5/8/13 till 11/8/13 Schaffen is open for a training week all week, students are welcome.

And on the French part of time, there's 2 clubs, Skydive Spa and Skydive Cerfontaine. Skydive Spa is open all week, a bit more expencive, but a beautiful, professional place to jump (or so I hear). No experience with Cerfontaine.

I was in Cerfontaine about 3 years ago, acting as an Designated-EvaluatorB| for a Coach and AFF course that was happening there.
i saw a few aff jumps while i was there. and the guys i evaluated for the AFF course where all pretty darn good in my opinion. i also liked the place and athmosphere that was there.
i enjoyed my time there, and i presume it is still opened at this stage.
