shorehambeach 9 #6 June 25, 2013 Glad it turned out ok. I am trying to roughly work out how much loss of altitude the mal caused.... What height did you first pull at and what height did you have a reserve over head ? Thanks for posting Blue skies.
bovosh 0 #7 June 25, 2013 deployed at 3500 according to my altimeter it said I was in the sattle by 2500, I chopped around 1500 and was in the sattle in the reserve around 1200-1300

Tetrahedron 13 #10 June 25, 2013 Lighten up, spaz. It was a routine cutaway. He did everything the way he was supposed to. There's nothing more to learn from it.
bovosh 0 #11 June 25, 2013 The one good thing to learn from this is to make sure your toggle keeper on the riser is not worn or loose. this will help prevent toggle fire
Tetrahedron 13 #12 June 25, 2013 I'll add; make sure the cat's eye setting in the steering line is below the ring on the riser and when stowing the risers in the channels, make sure the toggles don't become loosened. That is, if you're packing for yourself. Sometime toggle fires just happen. You have to be prepared for that eventuality. Especially on a highly loaded canopy. Don't let the blowhards get ya, a mal is a mal and yours could have been deadly if you had not taken correct action in a timely manner. Been through a couple and each one is scary. It is true that a higher performance 'chute can make this look tame. (and frankly, so can a lightly loaded canopy) There are much scarier conditions. But, given a bad situation, you done good. popsjumper 2 #22 June 26, 2013 Good job! The parts I liked best were: -you pulled the reserve handle anyway (good practice) -this vid is another testimonial to PULL THE DAMNED RESERVE EVEN IF YOU ARE SPINNING AT CUTAWAY! I feel better now. My reality and yours are quite different. I think we're all Bozos on this bus. Falcon5232, SCS8170, SCSA353, POPS9398, DS239
