FYI ; Kitty Hawk Demo Jumpers

Recommended Posts

Looks like it could get a mite breezy that close to the ocean.

You know, that's the first picture of the Kitty Hawk monument and park I've ever seen and, well, it's not exactly like I pictured it. I had in mind a desolate sand dune in the middle of nowhere, not a green belt park surrounded by housing developments There's just no stopping the dirt merchants.[:/]
The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

We are landing next to the monument, right? Will we have the whole circled area? Looks plenty big.

I'm not sure where we'll be landing...:|

Keep in mind that there will be a ton of 'celebration'
junk all over that area. :o

I have a sneaking suspicion that we will be on,
or close to the runway area...
everything else will be cluttered up.

There aren't even tickets available to get into the
'First Flight' event !
...following day of our demo. [:/]

Check out the PIC of our landing area!

Attached are three satellite photos of the area which I grabbed off the internet. The first is the view from high altitude, and the two subsequent views zoom-in for a closer look. This will give a general lay of the land.

Note that this area is a skinny little barrier island. You don't just have to worry about the ocean to the east, but also the huge inland waterway on the west side of the island.

Also, these satellite photos were taken in 1993, so what looks like a lot of open scrub brush land to the west, may now be developed and full of houses.

I hope we have a really, really good spotter...

What are you guys jumping? Whats your canopy and wing loading?

***

Depending on conditions...
I'm on a 170...190...or 260.
All relatively docile canopies

Was hoping to take delivery on my new rig prior...but won't be here until after Christmas. :(

Somebody put a big hill in the middle of our landing area....

Actually, that's at the south end of the area, in the big circular area on the aerial photos. Because of the slope, I don't recommend landing there (splat!), and I'm sure that they'll have a designated place for us somewhere in that long, open grassy strip.

Although I would love to land right next to the monument at the top of the hill...

I jump a Triathalon 260, loaded at .95 - I'll be one of the last ones to come down and land. So clear a path for me!

I will be on a 245 Sharpchuter loaded at .90. We will see how is last down.:P

You can get uptodate satellite photos on mapquest.
If it is ok with Al, I'll spot.
