Is having two audibles vs. just one REALLY necessary?

Recommended Posts

Having ONE isn't really NECESSARY!

But each individual should go with what
puts them at a reasonable 'comfort level'.

I know jumpers that carry two altimeters and two audibles...

I personally use one of each...
ONLY as a back up to looking at the ground.

There's an old saying:

"A man with one watch always knows what time it is. A man with two watches is never sure."

I'm not sure there's a lesson here other than whenever I've jumpped with two audibles one has always gone off before the other one.

I now only jump with one.

No, but it is nice. I have never had a problem with them going off at different times. Got a protrack and prodytter. Also have two alti's, one wrist and one mounted on my leg strap for 4way and coaching. Plus, its always nice to have an extra alti in case a student's is acting funny or a meatmissle forgot theirs and they are already on the plane.

Two is a good idea if you don't wear a visual altimeter.

Or if you don't look at your visual in freefall. Like in competition. Then the second is a backup in case one fails.

If they both fail, you always have your eyes.
