Squeak 17 #1 April 1, 2004 I've seen a few ppl turn 180 degrees under canopy whilst docked in a stack. Can this be down safely whilst flying solo, so as to get some stills of a folowing canopy for instance. Or is it recomended only for skilled pilots and idiotsYou are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky) My Life ROCKS! How's yours doing? indyz 1 #2 April 1, 2004 It's easy. Grab your front risers with your opposite hands (left hand on right riser, right hand on left riser) and pull back across. You'll turn 180 in the harness. Just let go to turn back around.
ianmdrennan 2 #3 April 1, 2004 Make sure you don't get your camera caught up in the slider and risers above you and also don't forget about oncoming traffic. Up high it's not a big deal to do, but done on a smaller canopy and being uneven in the harness can cause a spin. rjf98 0 #4 April 1, 2004 Gotta try that this weekend!!! I've been doing altitude H&Ps with a friend and that move while in front will freak her out
Tonto 1 #5 April 1, 2004 *Tighten your chest strap* If you're worried about hooking your camera in the lines on the turn around move.. Hook your feet up with your heels inside your front risers/line group. You'll be upside down, facing backwards and still have both hands in the toggles. Don't extend too much while inverted as it raises the COG of the wing and causes it to oscillate more. Makes for great pictures. Just remember to turn them around after development. Don't do this if your canopy is elliptical and/or very highly loaded, or if you're not strong enough to keep your moves gentle and controlled, or if you have shoes with hooks on them, or if you're the type of dude that could get himself hooked, wrapped or entangled in your own lines. Don't. If you're in OK shape and move like you didn't just borrow your body from someone else for the weekend and have not yet read the manual, then it's worth giving a try up high without wearing a camera. tIt's the year of the Pig. slotperfect 7 #6 April 1, 2004 QuoteI've seen a few ppl turn 180 degrees under canopy I do it on almost every AFF jump I do to see my student's fully open main canopy flying back toward the drop zone/wind line. I also used it a lot leading stacks when I was a GK.Arrive Safely John

Didn't some guy die trying this 6-7 years ago when he couldn't flip back right side up before landing? As i recall he had done this many times but on this jump couldn't get righted for whatever reason and landed on his head.
Yoshi 0 #8 April 1, 2004 I turn around all the time in my harness...as stated before you may want to keep your chest strap pretty tight just for that added security..while it doesnt matter than much in the 180 twist, if something were to go wrong and you needed to chop, having everything secure is a huge plus! another thing I do (learned from lewmonster) is occasionally flip upside down (as stated previously)...what I do, though, is kick my feet up and put my heels on my slider...kinda funcky feeling..._________________________________________ this space for rent. The version of that story I heard was he initiated his standing in the risers at 1,000 feet. That violates my personal altitude rule of "stupid shit under canopy stops at 2,500 feet". True, there is no guarantee that having 150% more time would have saved this guy, but it would have been a good asset. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
Tonto 1 #10 April 2, 2004 Maybe. I also know of people who jumped doing other stuff and died. Doesn't mean it can't be done. It's one man CRW. Don't wrap yourself. Simple. tIt's the year of the Pig.
raftman 12 #11 April 2, 2004 I remember reading about it in Parachutist. He was a crewdog, and accomplished acrobat and juggler, and was known for his stunts. I'll look in my back issues when i get home.
