kai2k1 0 #1 October 12, 2004 Is a home DZ the one where you were trained at or the one you go to? Have you ever switched home DZ's?? What is so good about it that makes it your home DZ? JYorkster 0 #2 October 12, 2004 Home is where the heart is! What I list as my home DZ is where all my friends are, where I learned to love this sport, and where I know I'll be welcome anytime. Unfortunately, I no longer live there, but home to me is always home. Just my 2 cents, Rock
BillyVance 33 #3 October 12, 2004 QuoteIs a home DZ the one where you were trained at or the one you go to? Have you ever switched home DZ's?? What is so good about it that makes it your home DZ? Discuss I basically call my home DZ the one I regularly go to. And yes, I have switched home DZs twice... The first home DZ is the one I trained at. Very small, laid back, just a C182, small airport. Then I moved. Found another airport close by with a DZ so I started going there rather than driving an extra hour away to the first DZ. I jumped at my 2nd home DZ for 7 years. Then it got sold to some scumbags who totally changed the vibes of the place. Hence my 2nd move to a 3rd home DZ where the vibes are much better, plus a better and faster plane. Most of the jumpers at the 2nd home DZ also switched to the 3rd home DZ. Some jumpers don't have a home DZ and just travel around. Me, I usually get about half of my jumps a year at my home DZ and the rest spread out among other DZs that have boogies. justaflygirl 0 #5 October 12, 2004 Z-Hills is my home DZ, definitly not my first, but I have felt welcomed from the first time I went there. Everyone is great, regardless of their sky skills...just a great place to jump!
weegegirl 2 #6 October 12, 2004 I think your "home" is where you make it. For me, it's Skydive Tecumseh. I learned there. I work there. I own a winnebego there. My buddies are there. If I was having a good day... that's where I'd go. If I were having a bad day... that's where I'd go. It's my happy place. It's my comfort zone. And it's where my family is. The day I lost my job, I showed up at the dz. The DZO asked me what was wrong and I told him. The very next day I had a fulltime job at the dz. Now THAT'S home. Evelyn 0 #8 October 13, 2004 I did my first tandem jump and all my student training at Perris and have never jumped anywhere else so Perris is definitely my home DZ, but once my own gear arrives I will venture out to other DZ.s. smiles 0 #9 October 13, 2004 I love to travel every year to different boogies- meet new people, jump different aircraft. My home d.z. is 5 min. down the hill, I can hear the porter flying loads from my house...we have a winter season here for 2-3 months without jumps (great time to travel to the sun) I trained there in 1987 and have been jumping there with the most awesome jumpers ever since. Amazon 7 #11 October 13, 2004 I think the Home DZ is where you feel most at home with good people having good times. I started at one one DZ long ago.. it is now Skydive Miami... I have not been back there since 1980. I started jumping again in March 2003 at a smaller DZ here in the Seattle area... Some VERY good people there and I made some good friends.. but the DZO is only interested in the money of his TANDEMS and AFF fees. He keeps telling everyone there how its gonna get better.. but if the Caravan from the my new HOME DZ is not there you are hard pressed to get much jumping in on a sunny day. If you do not mind solo's to fill up his plane with an odd number such as a tandem and a video out of the Cessna ( 4 people Max remember in a C-182) then you are all set. My new Home DZ.. has a VERY nice VERY well maintained Super Otter... with very experienced people who are all about JUMPING....The vibe is good the people are friendly and welcoming.. and the DZO KNOWS how to balance everyone and keep people jmaking skyjumps. When you have a limited amount of time off that is important at least it is to me. I do not sit around a DZ all week long.. I am working at my job 50 to 60 hours per week and when i get off on the weekend.. I want to JUMP. The other DZ here is a bit too far to go most of the time.. but the people there also know how to balance jumpers of all persuasions... and the vibe there is awsum as well. I also travel a bit.. all over the country...because lets face it. Seattle weather, for 6 months of the year at least, does not foster FULL ALTITUDE jumps. I have jumped at a few DZ's and all of them I have been to so far have been great places to jump... BUT I have done my research BEFORE I traveled to other places. I have not been let down yet in any of my travels. There are some places I return to because they are just a great place to be. ONe of those is Eloy.. and if you miss the Holiday Boogie there you are missing a truely wonderful experience. Maybe someday that little DZ that is only 8 miles from my house will learn that people are important.. and keeping everyone jumping makes for a better bottom line in the long run. But.. I tend to doubt it. I think it will become more and more like the place we all know about in Vegas.
slotperfect 7 #12 October 13, 2004 Some people call it the DZ somewhat near their home, where they skydive the most frequently. Some people call it the DZ where they learned to skydive - the start of it all. To me, there's no steadfast rule . . . call where you want home. You can change it if you want, or keep it the same forever. Follow your heart!Arrive Safely John
marcandalysse 0 #13 October 13, 2004 As of last month, a home DZ is where we pay rent for a trailer slot!
2fat2fly 0 #14 October 13, 2004 I list my home DZ as Flying Tigers, that's where I go most of the times and where most of my skydiving friends are. Skydive Monroe is where I trained and I try to get there when I can because it is special to me-hell, it's special to anyone that's been lucky enough to spend time there. maybe I should have a tier one and tier two choiceI am not the man. But the man knows my name...and he's worried
katiebear21 0 #15 October 14, 2004 Just so you're not a thread killer, I'll pitch in... My home dz will probably always be Raeford. I'm pretty confident that no matter how long I'm away or how many other dz's I frequent, Raeford will always have that "home" feel. I did my AFF in FL and have been to several dz's since. I think because of the high military population, Raeford will always feel like home. Katie Get your PMS glass necklace here
dtpilot 0 #16 October 14, 2004 To me the Home DZ is were you feel at home. People accept you and you have fun. That is what it is to me and you could always find a new home. "Believe me! mathgeek 0 #17 October 15, 2004 I started jumping about 4 months ago at a little DZ in Pell City, AL. It is a small DZ that only operates on weekends and has no air-conditioning or a lot of the perks I've seen at other DZ's. Sometimes when I'm there I miss the twin otter and the air-conditioned packing area over at ASC, but then when I go there to jump I just miss Pell City. Even though it's not the fanciest DZ we have the best feeling of family among the skydivers and no matter how many other DZ's I jump at I think they'll never feel like home because the Pell City crew is my family now and when I'm with my family then I'm home!
