AggieDave 6 #4 May 23, 2005 Realize that a 100 jumps is just barely a start in this sport and that it'll be a while before you really start to learn whats going on. A "100 jump wonder" is someone who has 100 jumps (or 200, 300, 400, 500) that gives everyone on the DZ advice (including the guy or girl with 2,000 jumps and is instructing) since he knows it all already.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Icon134 0 #5 May 23, 2005 I don't know... I am a 100 jump wonder... at least until I hit 200 ... as long as you're willing to admit that you don't know anything... (which I do all the time... have I mention I plowed through the center of a 6 way last weekend ) you should be fine... you probably shouldn't talk as much as I do either... rehmwa 2 #11 May 23, 2005 QuoteI want 100 jumps, but I don't want to be that "100 jump wonder" person. What can I do to not earn the title? 1 - Downsize immediately and start swooping - be belligerent about it 2 - Pierce and tatto everthing - shave your eyebrows, make up skydiving terms and use them in everyday competition 3 - Pick a discipline and talk like the pros do 4 - Offer to 'train' someone with a couple thousand jumps 5 - Walk in on team meetings and tell them they are turning to the wrong donut. Smile smugly and saunter off 6 - When an instructor gives you advice, get mad and start making faces until he leaves 7 - Talk about yourself in the 3rd person 8 - Start "training" someone with less than 90 jumps 9 - talk more than listen 10 - pick a discipline and immediately bad mouth all the other disciplines - even if you've never tried it 11 - Start saying things like - 'when I started we did it this way' 12 - Guess how to make a manuver and talk about it like it's law that should cover some things - to avoid ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

Just keep your ears open and continue working in small steps like you've been doing! i love the people who talk like they know everything.. even at 400-500 jumps. even those at 5000+ stll dont know everything! sunshine 2 #21 May 23, 2005 Silly Amy. You will never be a 100 jump wonder. You don't have that kind of attitude or ego. Your willingness to seek out experienced jumpers and ask for advice is great. And the fact that you will steer an AFP student or recent grad to a qualified person is wonderful. It's so sad to see someone wihtout the knowledge or experience giving advice, but i know you will never ever be like that. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug!
