Turbine lift ticket prices - US only please

Recommended Posts

Ouch! My DZ just announced it's raising lift ticket prices due to an increase in fuel costs. A ticket is going from $21 to $23 USD. I’m thinking that makes for the most expensive lift ticket in the US, but it might be normal now days. Please tell me what your lift tickets are! Since costs are not comparable from country to country, please US drop zones only and turbine planes only since 182 DZ’s are not comparable either.

EDITED to add: Single ticket price (no blocks) and assume "full altitude" (typically 12,500 to 13,500)

how do I vote when I'm paying as little as $15 for single jumps, or as much as $22, and getting that 22 down to 20 in blocks of 10? I probably end up with an average of 20.

Altitude probably should be part of it too, though it would make for a unwieldy poll.

Personally, the increase in jump ticket prices has been matched by the increase in gas spent to get to the DZ. I'm usually going about 8 gallons for the round trip for the 3-5 jumps.

$6 to get on the plane and $1 per 1K Alti. Skydive Ogden has a Tanker and buys the Fuel when prices are at the lowest (From what I understand) If a DZ does this and raises the Prices in the middle of the Season when they have already paid for the fuel then in my opinion it is just price gouging.>:(

But I have no Idea what other DZ's Do. I am just grateful I jump where I do :)

Stop crying... ;)

I pay $35 CDN for turbine tickets ($28-$30 USD). All 13500 feet AGL minimum, some a bit higher.

About half of the jumps I have ever made (~50) I made this summer are all on just a mere three Otter boogie weekends at Skydive Gananoque! I jumped 18 times on the last one.

Feel lucky you're not jumping in places like Japan (About $80, and I don't think that's even turbine).

(Edit: No, I didn't vote - I avoided doing so, because it is a US poll only)

Well, most industrialized countries have socialist leanings (including Canada) and have massive taxes (including very high fuel taxes) to support government programs. I presume in Canada you don’t have to pay as large a portion of your income to buy health insurance as I do, but I have lower taxes (including fuel taxes) than you do. Thus it is not possible to compare lift tickets between countries. Long story short, costs of living (and yes skydiving IS life!) of across countries are difficult to compare and can’t be measured via a singe item (lift tickets).

I’m not passing judgement on anyone’s economic or social believes or any countries’ system of government (at least in this forum) I’m just noting that comparisons are problematic, hence the request for US respondents only.

And I reserve the right to wine all I want! ;)

Japan's not THAT bad.. At least for regular jumpers.. When I was there I had to pay something like

$20 for national insurance (free for Japanese folks)
$20 to join their version of USPA for the month
$50 to jump with rental gear (didn't feel like lugging my gear across the ocean)

So while it was that for my one jump, it wouldn't be so much for a regular jumper

It depends on how much your dz flies. We have an 8 or 10,000 gallon fuel farm but we get deliveries a few times a season. unless you can hold a lot of fuel you dont have the luxary to only purchase once a season.
