Less than pleasant research results. Definitely not conclusive about skydiving & coffee yet tho.

In healthy volunteers, the equivalent of two cups of coffee reduced the body's ability to boost blood flow to the heart muscle in response to exercise, and the effect was stronger when the participants were in a chamber simulating high altitude, according to a new study in the Jan. 17 issue of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

Our DZO stops by Tim Hortons on the way to the DZ every morning and buys coffee for all the staff. What a benefit!

i go straight to the redbull<<<

Man that stuff rocksB|

One sip and it like the reaction from sniffing zest soap in the commercials on TV. It also makes a great mixer for vodka.

Vodka red bull, shaken not stirred.

Uppers and Skydiving---------
Sometimes, being 'Up' when others are down. Is good. Sometimes, when you are on the 30th hour of a social event they appear necessary.
Always, when you look at it from afar or from wisdom it's a place not to be.
Whatever:
Coffee - we did that in the chemical 60s. (I lie. We drank beer and jumped lots).
Methadrine, speed, crystal meth - we did in the 70s
Chemical cocktails - 80s RedBull 90s (they sponsored Freefly!) Makes your heart beat.
2000s Dunno. I'm toast from the previous practice.

Leaving the juicy parts out....

FACT: Yoga & Tai Chi kick ass on all! Proven.

the study says it doesnt affect the volume of blood pumped by the heart so where exactly is the problem with skydiving? It seems no more dangerous than eating pork chops in that it MAY(very questionably) contribute to heart disease...

One of the things they wrote about is that it calls into question whether the net effect of coffee is upper or downer, or neither. Performance enhancer, performance reducer, etc. The subjective experience is only part of the question, since the subjective factor is unreliable....for instance a lot of drunk drivers say they feel fine even when they are demonstrably impaired.

But they say the question is not answered by this research, only raised.

Caffeine affects the bloods ability to carry O2 to cells.

Is this a joke???

I thought that my heart racing was a majority of the fun...guess if I stop slamming coffee and Red Bull in the morning I'll have to start BASE jumping to make up the difference.

I say, if you are worried about your cardiovascular health and restricted blood flow then quit jumping out of planes and take up shuffleboard. Just give your old ticker a rest and leave all this rambunctious behavior to the kids.

Or start doing some cardio like running, swimming or cycling or something.

I feel a euphoric rush (maybe glamourising it a little bit) when I do a good jump but I dont notice any increase in heart rate or anything. Im sure it is but it doesnt feel pressured like when your running or being chased by a psycho with a knife.

This concludes that the colour of adrenalin isnt brown, but the colur of fear certainly is! :P

I can't even get dressed in the morning without coffee, let alone go skydiving without it.

And I wouldn;t want to try....
If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.
