norway:
required for students, optional for others. If you don't have one, you must have an RSL.. (if you have one, an RSL is not mandatory)

What about if you're doing crw, not a good idea to have either, in my opinion, when doing crw?

AADs are required for students, A certificate and tandems, and for everyone else who hasn't got an RSL.

There are no exceptions for CRW afaik, but then again - very few people actually do CRW here.
I do agree with you that I wouldn't want to use RSL when doing CRW, but why would an AAD be so bad? The only thing I can think of is when doing very advanced tricks like two people doing a downplane at low altitude...
(I know very little of CRW; the only time I've even seen it was in Kolomna, Russia last summer...);)

Required in Australia until you have your D.

An AAD is required until D licence, and between D & E (500 jumps), either an AAD or an RSL is required.

What if you're doing CRW? I wouldn't want either in that case.

An AAD like cypres would not bother me one bit when doing CRW. A RSL on the other hand would be a definate "no way".

Austria:

All Tandems and Students must have a AAD

All other licence jumpers have a free choice if they put one in there rig ore not
2004: 100% of students, 99.7%of intermediates, 98.3% of experts have a AAD

At least at one club is a AAD mandatory to all jumpers
