My first jump and might rain

Recommended Posts

If you got clumps of clouds dropping rain surrounded by clear skies, you'll get up. It's a very nice time to jump - air is much clearer than typical for that area, and you see how fast you're falling with nearby clouds.

If it's totally overcast, it's not going to happen. But given how unreliable the 5 day forecast is in California, is a bit early to bail.

I have occasionally done some manifest duty, and several times I had to talk to concerned tandem passengers about the weather.

All I can say is, if you're not going to the dropzone, you're definitely not going to jump.
Call ahead; if they're still open that day, they probably expect that there might be some jumping, even if it's just a few loads between showers.

When you get there, ask some random skydiver whether they maybe have a Great, Exciting or Scary Story for you.
We all do, and we never get tired of telling them.

If you also get to jump that day it's great - you might experience "cloud rush". If not, well, at least you had an entertaining day out. ;)

First time I've heard it called "cloud rush"...makes sense though. On my tandem video you can see my expression change from "this is freaking awesome" to a flush faced "oh my goodness, I'm flying 120 MPH straight into a cloud!!!" I'm sure many of you have fallen through clouds before and besides them, but it was absolutely fantastic to go right through one on my first (and only :( ) jump. Don't get me wrong though..."cloud rush" is freakin' cool! You'll have so much fun! Go for it, you may just get hooked like me and go open a special "skydiving savings" account for AFF and gear when you realize you want more.

Me and buddy got our first jump, tandem, this upcoming monday jan 7 in lake elsinore. The weather might, just mightttttttttttttt rain. Do they still let ppl jump? Should i resched? Help me out.

You can't jump if you don't go. If the weather is bad, go anyway and hope that it clears up, if it doesn't..then reschedule. Not to mention, that a weather forecast is RARELY correct, unless they are predicting these slow moving systems up north here, grrr. >:(

Nah, you must have been hallucinating. Skydivers would never jump through clouds.;) The rules say so.

Props to your "instructor". Not everyone can say they did their first jump and broke their first FAR all at the same time.:|

If you fall through the gaps between a lot of very small cumulus clouds, you still get cloud rush.. :)

Call Elsinore in the AM and ask if they are jumping. You are probably driving a long way, so save the gas $$. Or just go out and if it rains go over the hill to Perris and fly in the tunnel. Or go to the Lake Elsinore Casino and make big bucks playing poker!
Have Fun!
