Please don't take this personally, as it's something I've thought for some time and your video just brought it to mind....

RULE ONE OF VIDEO EDITING:

Do NOT use slow motion for more than 5 seconds out of every 120 seconds!

That ain't rule one of editing . . . this is . . .

Rule #1
The guy with the money is ALWAYS right.

Rule #2
Everything else is subjective.

Actually, it rather worked for me. It prevents the MTV ADHD flashing of disjointed images at you, and it fits the music. There are some nice images in there as well.

But really, it should have more "jump, pull, have fun" B|B|B|

Johan.
I am. I think.

Not in my book. Sometimes it's worth handing the money back and saying, "I can't help you."

Sorry JP, Quade's got it right.
Now, if YOU'RE the guy with the money (your production) do whatever the hell you want.
It seems in weddings and sports video, slo-mo is far, over used and grossly misused.
Rather than slowing down or re-living the moment, create more moments to watch.

I know few professional editors that can afford to do that.

I once saw a guy say to a client, "I'm sorry. I can't help you any longer. You're just too fuckin' stupid." Needless to say, I haven't seen him in an editing bay for quite awhile. Ya say that kinda thing on the "inside", but never to the client.

To the original point, overuse of slow motion screams too little footage of too little quality.

If you have too little footage of too little quality, sounds like a good thing. How about too little footage and low quality at that?

I have the luxury of not being in that position.:)

Nawww . . . what I think it screams is you've decided to make your project too long. The footage itself may be exactly right in both terms of length and quality, but for some silly reason the producer has decided to use a piece of music of a certain length or is tied to some other arbitrary length restriction. I'd cut down the music to make it a more manageable length and use the exact same footage in real time.

6 of one half dozen of the other I guess.....

Maybe, maybe not. ;)

People almost never complain that a video that is "too short" is boring. If they think it's "too short" then they clearly wanted to see more. On the other hand . . . a video that is "too long" . . . uh . . . that's a problem in a number of ways.

Dude, don't you remember the $6 million man. He rocked - and could only run fast in slomo. You should relax and jusy let life slip you by a touch. Red eyes.
