Skydiving Quotes You've Learned.

Recommended Posts

Look, grab, protect, pull, punch

From my FJC "The first thing to know is you're going to land. The question is how fast will you be going."

Edited to add: The skydiver's prayer...Please Lord, don't let it be me who FUCKS UP.

In regards to flying a plane..."If you want to go up you pull the yoke back. If you want to go down, pull back further."
Please don't dent the planet.

Once you get the grip, don't let go--No matter what happens!!

The most important rule. Don't scare the instructor!!

If you can't see the spot make a correction in each direction and call the Cut.

Don't bother to cutaway anything better than a baglock. (230 lbs on a 24' T-10)

The variant on your 2nd one there that I always heard was, "Keep pulling handles until blood fills your goggles."

Kinda along the same lines...

"If your main doesn't work, cut-away and pull your reserve. If your reserve doesn't work, walk towards the light."

... and I can't believe no one has posted this yet...

"BLUE SKIES, BLACK DEATH"

The quote of all quotes when it comes to skydiving!

How about "Blue skies, red eyes"
If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.
Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone

A quote from Tom Piras

"All we're asking for.... is perfection. One time."

Or from my buddy Bruce McConkey after a crw wrap

"I thought I was gonna die.... and I couldn't think of anyone else I'd rather die with!"
If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.

"I wonder if he wants to do this as much as I do?" me, at about 1000 feet, looking over at my buddy in freefall.

Then he smiled, and we did a hookup before dumping our reserves.
If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead.

:o I got quoted! Yesssss! :P

* Freeflyer about bellyflying: "Anxiously remaining ready to pull from exit on"

* Bellyflyer about freeflying: A total lack of stability and calling it a discipline

* Surely I'll reach the ground

* La culture c'est come un parachute - te te n'as pas, tu t' ecrais (sp?)
(Culture/good manners) are like a parachute - Y'aint got it, you (crash / STFU)

* Most skydiving injuries occur during the landing.
(well, they would, wouldn't they? Landing a baglock just can't be healthy..)
"That formation-stuff in freefall is just fun and games but with an open parachute it's starting to sound like, you know, an extreme sport."

"We just had a call from an inbound 747 Capt. who reported you guys passed them in freefall less then a 100 ft away and we know who was on the load by the descriptions of the jumpsuits" -A jumping Cincy FAA inspector

After reading all of them... This made me laugh the hardest. :D

"If you show the pilot your boobs, we'll get more altitude."

You know there was a problem when we lost altitude....uggh

oh here is one for EP's.......

Due to the procedure changing from the 60's to the 90"s when I finally got back in for good, I could never remember the correct order or which handles. I now it sounds silly today, but go back to shot and 1/2's, belly mounts that I always played with as a kid....It really wasnt that easy for me when it became 'standard" as it is today.

So:

"Right Now! Left Last!"

of course muscle memory has a bigger play now than it did when I came up with it but...... I have taught that to a few who have come back and told me that it worked for them.

Now, some day I am sure I will get to use it for real...:S:S:S:S:S

Statement at Manifest:

Did you see golden arches? Do I have orange hair and a red rubber noise? Than "NO" you don't get it the way you want it!

"High Speed Dirt Kills slow speed people"

"Blue Skies Black Death"

"If you are on my back as we track away and you see my pilot chute consider that to be my brake lights"

"If you need to think about the fact that you might have made a mistake! You already have!"

"Two words you are not allowed to use in the same sentence! Skydiving and Safe"

"What color is your main? Response: If I had to look at it long enough to tell you what color it was I would have to cut it away!"

"The difference between and experienced jumper and a student is they both fuck-up the same amount, it's just that the experenced jumper is better at covering it up!"

Get in or go in.

On one load at the '76 Elsinore Scrambles, 2 jumpers didn't get in and took that advice.

And Bubba said "No one ever listend to me before!"
"Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there."

"Your statement answered your question."

Spotting is for freefallers. We don't need no freekin' spot.
