Drop Zone Regulations?

Recommended Posts

This is one of those areas where the greatest amount of regulation is actually the self regulation of the industry.

To see what the United States Parachute Association has to say on the subject, you should check out this page.

The US government actually has very little to say on the subject compared to the industry standard. The FAA is mostly concerned that the skydiving operation doesn't interfere with other aircraft operations. As long as you follow their rules, you could conceivably set up some bizarre scenarios. For instance, there is nothing against FAA regulations against teaching 12 year old children to skydive; putting them out on their first skydive, solo at night.

If you want to take away one idea from here to put in your report, take this;

Not everything that is legal is safe and not everything that is safe is legal.

Yes!
While it may be LEGAL to parachute in Class B or C airspace or in a low level air route, or near the approach to a major airport, you will annoy so many air traffic controllers, airliners, etc. that it will never be a viable DZ.

HInt: ear;y in the planning process, stare at a terminal chart and visit the local air traffic control center to ensure that your proposed DZ will not interfer with scheduled air line traffic.
